CV, have a brilliant time at the reunion. I am sure you will look very elegant, whichever outfit you choose. Also, please tell me your secret for getting your hair to grow so quickly - it's so long now!
Auriga, I am glad that your dd is continuing to be a bright spot in what sounds like a very dark time. So sorry to hear about your dm's rapid decline and what sounds like your imprisonment. Hope dh is providing both lovely meals and lots and lots of tlc for you.
MI, BD, Monty - sending you all my very best wishes for dealing your ailing and fading parents. And well, I'm just sending love and strength to all crepeys who are dealing with crumbling parents. Just remember to be kind to yourselves also, and know that we are all only capable of doing our best in trying circumstances. We are not super-human and we are not miracle-workers. It's ok to do some bin-jumping if it helps. :)
I have had an extremely challenging week with dd and her school. I will not burble on. Just to say, I was also very tired, PMT-ish and had had, quite frankly, quite enough of bloody emails from said academic institution and texts from dd, as though I have nothing else to do in my life aside from act as her PA. I did all of it and managed to avoid any bin-jumping - but only just. I have, however, done inordinate amounts of swearing. And have earned myself a reprimand from ds.
I fear Mon-Thurs next week will involve more swearing.
Ds now has a lovely purple cast on his arm. He was replastered with a full cast on Thurs and was most put out to see a large piece of metal actually sticking out of his arm when they took the back slab off. Dh took a picture.
Dh forgot to do sundry other important pieces of admin, which means I now have to contact the fecking hospital for paperwork. My dm was most excited by the idea that she could whizz in and be SuperGran when she heard about ds's injury and the school issuing sundry ultimatums to dd. On Tuesday, dm drove down to tend to ds during the day and she also took dd to school to get her to a practical science exam. With 5 mins to spare. And then cooked everyone lunch. My dm and I can barely spend more than a few hours in each other's company before wanting to kill each other, but I do have to concede that she is very practical and pretty impressive for someone of nearly 86. Especially as her health is not A1.
In professional news, I didn't bother to go to the "graduation ceremony"
for the course I did last year (I never bother with graduations and awards ceremonies - like big parties and weddings, they are very much not my thing), but I got a FB message from a friend who was at the do and she told me that I got a distinction. I was a bit sceptical and thought she might have misheard when they read out my name, but I got the certificate in the post this morning. Award "for consistent levels of excellence throughout the course". It's fair to say I sweated blood for the whole of last year, but I'm completely gobsmacked at that meaning that I actually achieved something! I told my line manager on Thurs that there was a possibility I had got a special mention and she very sweetly said, "But we knew that already." She has also done a lot of shouting and huffing on my behalf with the school bigwigs to get an increase in my hourly pay (related to a small stuff-up they had made with my contract). Yay :)
