In all honesty - I am not sure I know what the accessibility of a font means. Lot's of people with sight problems (especially those with astigmatism) moaning about it on the other thread.

Have a glass of my Wine MI.

I will stop grumbling about all my first world problems now.

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 17:59

I am not sure accessibility standards are as simple as MNHQ making out.....it is great on my phone, absolutely awful on my laptop.

Collymollypuff · 16/03/2016 18:52

Surely sans serif fonts are less readable than serif fonts. That's what the ole London College of Printing taught me anyhow.

hattymattie · 16/03/2016 18:57

I agree Molly - I thought the point of serif was that it guided the eye along the word but I may be way out of date and totally wrong there.

I'm waiting for Grantchester for my WineSmile

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 19:06

I think it may be a mobile vs computer thing Molly? Roboto seems recommended for Android, if I have understood which I probably haven't.

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 19:19

San serif is, I think, better for digital. I'm writing one of my RNIB features at the moment on how NHS and social care providers are going to be obliged by law to provide service users with accessible info by August....

This is RNIB's site

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 19:20

The font on my phone hasn't changed at allConfused

Just back from DS's Parents Evening, and it was the best one so far - he seems to have moved onto being a "leader" rather than a "ringleader" Fingers crossed he continues in the right direction. And so pleased that the school/teachers kept their faith in him coming good.

Auriga, that sounds a very sensible plan.

Collymollypuff · 16/03/2016 19:49

Aha, the digital thing would explain it. Thanks, MI.

BTM, that sounds great about ds. I'm pleased that my ds is quite leader-y. Grin {Today the uni board games soc, tomorrow the world mwahaha}

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 19:58

It is OK in Safari, fine on phone (looks the same), terrible on Chrome, so not sure it is to do with serif and sans serif - the website I found said Roboto was preferred for Android and something else for Chrome.

Tilly that's fab.

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 23:04

Which board games do you/ds like, Molly?

Collymollypuff · 16/03/2016 23:53

He is nuts about all of them. Me, not so much - I have to fake enthusiasm. A current fave is Carcassonne. Dh will happily play forever, most games, well into the night. He has his uses. Scrabble is about as far as I can go in actually liking a game.

Collymollypuff · 16/03/2016 23:55

But I am concerned that BTM's ds and my own may have to go head to head in world leadership. It'll be like Batman vs Superman. Who knows who will win? Or might they job-share?

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 23:57

Grin. I got so obsessed with Carcassone I made us all go there for a mini-break.

Collymollypuff · 17/03/2016 00:00

Honestly, I thought about it for the summer - but I don't know if ds' and ds gf's obsession extends into RL. Is it all fields, roads and rivers out there, with highly coloured people lying down a lot?

Lalsy · 17/03/2016 00:06

Yep, that's it. As you fly in, you see the board beneath you.

Blackduck · 17/03/2016 05:48

Carcassone - fab game and loving the idea it's really like that Grin

Here it's "where is it?'. (Fiendishly hard geography game which proves time and again that my knowledge of the U.S. Is pants) and 'where's Moldova?' Another geog based game. Ds whips our arses at both of them..... Dp retaliates by going one better than Vlad the impaler when playing Risk......

Blackduck · 17/03/2016 06:07

Good on ds BTM - here we didn't make parents evening for work related reasons. Ds managed to cancel most appointments but not all. His head of year then had a go saying ' you made teachers stay late for you when you didn't turn up'. Ds pointed out that all his appointments were before 4.30 so that wasn't true....... I suspect he's not making friends!

bigTillyMint · 17/03/2016 06:35

Molly, your DS need not fear - mine is not remotely interested in board gamesGrin
But we have been to Carcassone (never even heard of the board game!)

BD, his school sound a bit extra! In our case DS's History/RE teacher was off sick and DS was gutted as he really likes him and would have given DS a good report!

Here I am still reeling from the news that another old colleague of mine has died. She was only diagnosed a week before, not much older than me.

motherinferior · 17/03/2016 06:56

Oh god BTM, how awful.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/03/2016 08:40

Oh BTM how awful.

I have never been to (or played) Carcassonne, but have spent a disproportionate amount of time in Moldova.

As we were both on leave yesterday, we went into town for what should have been a nice lunch, but wasn't, as DH was being a complete See You Next Tuesday. He vetoed Zedel (didn't want a big lunch with wine), three pizza places, an Italian, gourmet burgers, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, French, tapas and a pub. By this time it was nearly 4.00. I was starving and snarky - I have low blood pressure and needed food. We ended up in a crappy Lebanese caff in Soho because I made him make the decision. I was utterly fed up by then, so instead of going shopping afterwards, which I had planned ("What do you need more clothes for?"), I just went to Boots for essentials and then went home. He'd got a taxi back pretty much as soon as he'd left me, so was unfortunately home before me, so I didn't even have the place to myself for a bit. He did sort of apologise, but it was too little, too late, and the day was ruined.

magimedi · 17/03/2016 09:10

BTM - that's horrible.

DS & DIL play a lot of games (no TV) & Carcassonne is one of their favourites. I've never played it.

CremOlafoam · 17/03/2016 09:26

Mrs S LTB. Shocking childish behaviour. You deserve a big apology.

BTM , so sorry that's awful. Hearing of so may young sudden deaths recently.Sad

Happy St Patrick's day to you all. It's a nice day off for us here, but a little meh to be honest. I am however having lunch with my lovely friend - if the designated cafe is actually open today that is. Very confusing as some people mark the day and others don't bother. Shamrock

motherinferior · 17/03/2016 09:29

NO LUNCH TILL FOUR???????

And what's wrong with a nice lunch with a glass of wine on a DAY OFF????

bigTillyMint · 17/03/2016 09:32

MrsS, that sounds crappy. I would be very cross with DH if he did that.

Cremo, it's a big night here (for the youngsters!)

NUFC69 · 17/03/2016 09:38

Waves from Harrogate. BTM, sorry to hear about your friend: it's upsetting how so many friends die before their allotted three score years and ten. Great news about DS's parent evening, though.

I have never heard of the game "Carcassonne" and never been there either, though it looks amazing. I haven't noticed any difference with the font on my mini iPad so can't comment about that. DH and I have just had an interesting discussion about the Cathars, though, when I was trying to find out how to spell Carcassonne without looking it up ... wanders off the point.

Had a wonderful drive down yesterday through the Yorkshire Dales - there was still a touch of snow on the hill tops. Off for a walk in the Valley Gardens shortly.
