Fingers crossed BDucklingSmile

Ahh yes student housing. Dds last year was a labyrinthine place which was self catering, shared bathroom and kitchen. She hated it.i once visited and the room had been redo carted by her to look like crack-den chic. Unspeakable. I don't expect her flat this year with the gf is any better. Especially now they have an indoor cat to boot. Dh keeps asking about some duvet cover he bought for her. I can't tell him that he will never ever see that again.Grin

I always lived off campus, once in a house of 14 people. Too mad to mention really. Full of waifs and strays that were definitely not paying rent. Twas grim.

NU, you sound hassled. Hope your trip is calm and restorative.

Happy valley finale-wasn't it magnificent.??
Have caught up with The Hidbot storyline. Also magnificent. And yes to the backside. But doesn't he look like he's wearing foundation ? His face doesn't match the rest of himGrin

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 11:07

I feel guilty. Rang my mum. She says she hasn’t heard back from the palliative care unit yet. I said get my dad to ring the GP practice and let them know. I worry mum will do it – oh soddit, I said several times get HIM to do it, dammit. I do have a job to do.

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 11:19

Herbs, that sounds cool in all senses of the word!
I lived in a typical big, grim old student house in my first year (but it was good for parties!) and then a lovely new student flat in the city centre for the other 3 years, with all heating, etc in with the rentSmile

Hatty, how frustrating. Surely something will come up?

DS has just text to say he thought his French CA was decent. Not sure if his idea of decent is the same as the teachers, but it is done! And he has a match this afternoon, so no lessons after lunch, but Parents Evening tonightShock

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 11:26

Good Luck BDuckling!

MI, I am joining you on the feeling guilty bench. I have decided not to ring DM for at least a while as there is no point in ringing for her to moan at me. I might send her a card/whatever instead, then at least she knows I haven't forgotten her!

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 11:35

On the other hand she is v pleased with the recording of my concert solo, so that's solved the Will You Sing At My Funeral issue....

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 11:44

She wants you to sing at her funeral? You see, she does rate you, despite the years of denigrating you.

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 12:02

She is actually appreciating me hugely at the moment. I am working very hard at being nice to her. I do realise this will all rebound in me later, but that is later and now is now. And there is, for us, not much now. Whereas the awful thing about dementia is the loss and not-loss.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/03/2016 13:49

Auriga - that sounds awful. I'm so sorry. And MI. Sad

Just back from Parents' Day. The general consensus seems to be that DD1 is very able, but very disorganised. If she can get her act together, she should get good grades. But it's a big "if". I am hoping that she does well in her French exam this summer - it will be a huge confidence boost if she does.

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 14:02

MrsS, have they thought about dyspraxia or anything? Only asking because DD's friend has just been diagnosed with dyslexia and no one had considered it at all before (including her!)

CremOlafoam · 16/03/2016 14:26

Dd was very similar at your dds age. We got her to list what she had to do each day on a bit of paper. It helped her very scattered approach - half doing things and then starting something new. Well it helped for a while, until she could actually prioritise in her head. HTH Mrs S.

Well done to ds for getting through the CA BTM . Hope decent =good pass.Grin

I have started dismantling the tiled hearth with chisel and mallet. Dh has been "about to do it" for X months. The distractions in this house are many and varied. I am determined to kick start things before the hand surgery. Just slightly inspired by the sunny warm day.....Am off to phone the carpenter.

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 14:34

Well done Cremo! I actually quite like doing those kind of tasks when I have time. I need to make a list of jobs to do at Easter...

And we ARE going to Vietnam in the summer - DH has booked the flights!

hattymattie · 16/03/2016 15:39

Wow - BTM - you have the most amazing holidays. Shall look out for FB photos as ever - especially given that we've booked nothing so far as we still don't know what the DD's are doing - nor, it seems, are we likely to soon!

MI and BTM - don't feel guilty - you both need a breather.

Crem - I still half do things then start something new! Well done on the hearth though and careful with the hammer.

Mrs S - surely DD1 should ace her French given her experience 'sur le terrain'.

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 15:43

Wow, BTM!

And go, Crem, go.

MrsS, dd used to be terribly disorganised, couldn't tell the time, tie shoelaces, know which planet she was on.....She got really into making lists for everything and ticking stuff off each night at bedtime and is now a convert to a wonderful little list app called ticktick (as am I).

CremOlafoam · 16/03/2016 16:05

Oh Lals I'm getting that downloaded right now! Love it.
BTM wowsers! You lucky thing!

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2016 16:15

Funnily enough, one of the people I had a meeting with this morning is going at Easter. Must be the place to go ATM!

Now we have to pray that DD doesn't do a skiing U-turn on us again. She has agreed (though moaning that 17 days is too long...)

magimedi · 16/03/2016 16:52

BTM - I'd be telling her that there is no option of ducking this one if she agrees to come now.

I am in a really bad mood - all very trivial & boring, just lots of little things, nothing to compare to the problems so many of you have got atm.

The new font on here is just the last fucking straw.

Am seriously thinking of selling up & going to live in France (with DH) - but I think there would be too many difficulties.

It's too early for Wine - isn't it?

Lalsy · 16/03/2016 16:59

Magi, agree about the font. Looks like a spider has peed on the page. Sorry you are feeling beleaguered.

Crem, it is fab, little dose of daily smugness and illusion of being in control. Terribly soothing.

I have made a most embarrassing email error - sent a piece of work with what, to the uninformed eye looks like a gruesome anatomical threat (MI you'll know the sort of thing) in the email header - to my ex-builder with whom I am not on speaking terms Blush.

Rosebag · 16/03/2016 17:02

Think I'll get DD to download ticktick. Thanks Lalsy!!!! I have been saying to her that next year when she's (hopefully) doing her BTEC, I am no longer going to micromanage her through her unruly organisational debacles, and we are going to use some sort of list arrangement.

Good luck to BD's mini musician.

MI Flowers

Agree about Tilly's amazing holidays!! Love following them on fb every year! We are avidly reading Molly's Switzerland guide books and trying to make plans amid a house of illness. DD had to be collected early from school today and has gone down hard. DS2 has intractable headaches and I am a little improved on yesterday but still want to crawl away, coughing and spluttering.

It's my wedding anniversary. whoop whoop... Hmm

Auriga · 16/03/2016 17:05

Grin @ last fucking straw. I hate it too.

Went to work some distance away today, leaving DH in charge. Told my colleagues that if he so much as lifted a finger for DM, it would be much better than anything I could do in a month of Sundays.

Sure enough, DM rang her bell to tell him she'd taken some morphine, so he prepared another dose for her. I came home to extended raptures about what a gem he is, nothing too much trouble, he takes everything in his stride, he's so kind etc. etc.

After prolonged agonising, I've cancelled tomorrow's cardiology appointment. No point putting her through that, she doesn't want any kind of surgery, we're just trying to keep her comfortable. Will ring the cardiologist instead.

BD, how did music exam go?

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 17:09

Auriga, I STILL remember my mum and her best mate enthusing over DP's amazingness because he'd changed the baby's nappy. AngryAngry

hattymattie · 16/03/2016 17:14

MM - I didn't realise the new font was officel - I thought my tablet had just got out of hand as per usual. I hate it too - I want the old MN back.

magimedi · 16/03/2016 17:20

Go here & MOAN!!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2593480-Heads-up-were-about-to-introduce-a-wee-its-really-not-that-big-site-update?msgid=59898816

As about 500 others (including me) have.

Is it still too early for Wine?

Collymollypuff · 16/03/2016 17:24

I can't imagine why MN has gone sans serif. Grumble. It's not even 1 April.

magimedi · 16/03/2016 17:29

To quote from Justine in the site stuff thread:

"Re the font - It's Roboto which is a Google font and passes all the accessibility tests etc. The line height is also greater now, which helps readability for some people but, of course, everyone is different so we're very keen to get your feedback. "

It's obviously cool & trendy - HA!!

Have decided it bloody well is Wine time.

motherinferior · 16/03/2016 17:36

I like the new font Blush and also if it's accessible that's very important.

But I'll join anyone in Wine
