Please help choosing a ring (out of 2) for a special birthday.

Both blue stones, although the round one is discernibly blue, whereas the rectangular cut stone is an aquamarine but has barely any colour, the slightest hint of blue, almost clear in some lights. I am stuck! Any opinions are appreciated. Recipient will be 50 and has had a dreadful year. Thanks :)

Possibly the second one (the round one) as it is very classic but hard to choose between them really. Any clues to what she'd prefer based on her usual jewellery/clothes style?

mumsnit: I love the stone colour in the round ring and the style of the other. It would be a no-brainer for me if the rectangle stone was the same distinct blue as the round one is! I'm not sure the rectangle stones doesn't look a bit insipid. I'm not sure of her style as she doesn't wear that much jewellery... All her jewellery is from years ago, like when she was a bridesmaid (signet ring) and a round stone from a big birthday that I'm not sure she loves. I can see either on her hand.
The rectangle one is in the sale, same price as the round one which is full price, so, theoretically, the rectangle ring is better value.

Rectangular one looks nicest to me. The round one is nice too but I just think there is something about the rectangular one that looks more elegant and expensive.

Much prefer the rectangular one.

I like the rectangular stone, and the other band....I can't be doing with little sparky chippy nonsense.
But from the two I would go with the rectangular one if that was the choice.
I agree with oddsock, i think the round one as it is, looks dated and very old fashioned, and I am also 50.

Also rectangular one for me...more timeless and less likely to date...
