Stupid Question Alert - how does one best apply this stupid bloody stuff?

Ok. I have tried many methods and as far as I can tell none of them are the right ones. Have narrowed my technique down to two possible modes of application but still the stuff refuses to cooperate. I am, of course, talking about body bloody scrub.

Technique 1 is apply it direct to body. As quick as I reach for the brush it drops off and disappears down the drain.

Technique 2 is smoosh it into the brush - from where it never reappears. No idea where it goes but it's not onto my body for sure.

So please tell me how it's done for maximum efficacy and minimum frustration? Or shall I resign myself to dry scaly skin?

Definitely hand, squirt in hand then rub immediately into body using circular motions. Body usually wet first. Often I squirt it one hand then rub both hands together then rub body with both hands.

Some scrubs aren't very scrubby at all.

Used coffee grounds mixed with honey is the best body scrub ever. Dreadfully messy but amazing.

What brush are you using? Do you mean a shower pouffe doofer thing?

Anyway, I use my hands before getting in the shower. Makes it more scrubby if it goes onto dry skin. Sometimes I dampen my hands first. Soap and Glory do the most scrubby ones. None of your 'exfoliating beads' nonsense. I like Sugar Crush and Breakfast Scrub.

Just the sort of brush you do body brushing with Waggle, and one of the Soap and Glory scrubs - forget which one now. Not the one with lime in it. But anyway - I tried last night with hands and it at least didn't fall off but I didn't feel very scrubbed! Think I may have to go back to the drawing board on the whole exfoliating issue ...!

Have you tried dry body brushing? Lots of stuff online about how it 'detoxes' which is nonsense but it (combined with moisturising) got rid of the permanent dry skin on my back.

I only bother with body scrub in the bath, elevate offending limb out of water, apply with hands and massage in, dunk under to rinse and continue for rest of body. In the shower, no sooner you apply it than it's washed straight off- a waste of time.

I don't have the shower running whilst scrubbing and my skin is dry. That makes it scrubbier. Give the lime one (sugar crush) a go. It has lots of oils in it that add to the smoothness.

Table salt + olive oil (or any carrier oil that takes your fancy) = cheap effective body scrub.

Add just enough oil to create slimy mush. You can add a few drops of essential oil too.

Oh and def use your hand.

I use exfoliating gloves, I scoop it out of its tub/squeeze it out of its tube and rub it together then rub it over my body in circular motions then rinse off!

L'oreal sugar scrub in a yellow tube is very scrubby.

Scrub applied with hands onto dry skin. Hop into shower to rinse.

I have one of those sponges that has a "scrubby bit" on the top - using the scrubby bit with the scrub is effective. But sponges get icky a bit quickly so its probably not the best thing.

Please make sure the scrubby bits are something natural and biodegradable like salt or bits of woody stuff, but not microbeads, which cannot be filtered out of the waste water, and so just go out to pollute the oceans.

There is more plastic than fish in our oceans, now.

Good advice Sanity, I think salt or sugar scrubs work best and they dissolve in the bath so you don't come out covered in bits.

I only really use body scrub to get rid of the remnants of spray tans, but over years of trial and error I have found that the best thing to use is a good old fashioned flannel. It's actually pretty effective on its own, but with added body scrub it gets rid of every last bit of tan....those body puff things, the sponges with scrubby stuff on one side, a cloth thing that was sold as being purpose built for tan removal.....not one is as good.
I think that my testing is pretty conclusive as you can actually see things being exfoliated away!
