Melasma (brown discoloration) - HELP!

I have been suffering from a mild but stubborn brown discoloration (melasma) on my forehead and cheeks for several years.

I know it is caused by birth-control hormons, that I unfortunately can't stop taking for medical reasons.

I am obsessive about usIng SPF 50+++ every single day and I always wear a hat during sunny summer days. I also use a BHA (salicylic acid) exfoliant toner and a retinol cream every night before bed.

In spite all my efforts, my discoloration has not been fading at all. I am starting to think there is nothing I can do to make it better Sad

If you had hormon-related melasma (either caused by birth-control or pregnancy) and you managed to get rid of it, please tell me how you did it!!!
