That elusive high quality long-sleeved t-shirt

Help me find it please?

I went looking for one of these at the weekend and despite being in a huge city I couldn't find one. The only quality t-shirt seemed to be in Hobbs and it only came in one colour (bretton stripe) and it was £45 Shock.

I just want a v or crew neck in cotton in a good choice of colours or an ivory one which isn't see-through! It needs to wash well without shrinking or twisting out of shape, and fit well without being clingy or too thin.

Next do them but they don't wash well, jigsaw was too thin, m&S ones too clingy, etc

Watching with interest. I need these too!

AuntieStella · 25/02/2016 13:17

I don't know if these are high enough end, but I've been happy with Uniqlo ones

seefeld · 25/02/2016 13:18

Have you looked in Cos?

OldestStory · 25/02/2016 13:19

Not high end at all, but H&M is the place for these. You will need to try on because of the arbitrary sizing, but they are great.

Naoko · 25/02/2016 13:20

The H&M ones are indeed brilliant. I have loads of them and they're completely indestructible.

AnnPerkins · 25/02/2016 13:21

I recommend Uniqlo too. I have a couple that are probably 2-3 years old now. They're very soft and have kept their shape and colour well.

bakeoffcake · 25/02/2016 13:24

Another one here who loves H&M cotton t shirts. They have an organic cotton range and they are around £8.

They are amazing and have been buying those rather than the Jigsaw ones I used to buy.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 25/02/2016 13:26

Online Boden? They have a basics range and my T shirts from them are still looking great after 3-4 years.

cressetmama · 25/02/2016 13:43

Third vote for Uniqlo. I have four grey ones, and other colours. Wash well, wear well, keep their shape and are not see-through. And at £12.90 for the Henley I like, not expensive.

fresta · 25/02/2016 13:53

Thanks everyone, Uniqlo sounds like the place. I can't bring myself to pay Jigsaw prices for a t-shirt. Actually forgotten about H&M, but thinking about it I think the ones I've just thrown out were form there and they have lasted about 10 years, but need to replace now Grin, think I've really had my money's worth out of them.

Are the cotton ones the best? They have several versions on Uniqlo?

Vero Moda. I have long sleeved tops from there that I wear all the time and they're still as good as new. I think they were something like just £10 Shock

mrslebon · 25/02/2016 21:36

These J Crew ones are bloody brilliant:

I've got the black cherry and the grey. Perfect for layering, spot on length and wash like a dream.

splodgeness · 26/02/2016 09:37

Yes Uniqlo. Lovely and soft, full length sleeve, good price. Perfect. I also love their thermal long sleeve t-shirts for wearing under stuff in the winter. I have about 8!

Doobigetta · 26/02/2016 19:38

Oasis ones are really good. Properly stretchy without either feeling nylony or too tight.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/02/2016 19:43

Going really low end here but I've got some from Peacocks that I've had a couple of years and worn loads, washed well and kept their shape. They're about £6 so worth a try?

SwedishEdith · 26/02/2016 20:23

Oh, I was going to recommend the Next ones - I think they're pretty good.

HopeClearwater · 26/02/2016 23:19

What is the Uniqlo sizing like? Would M be about a size 12? Or more like a 10?

PurpleWithRed · 26/02/2016 23:27

www.jigsaw-online.com/product/double-front-scoop-t-shirt/J10819_WH000 I have several of these great shape properly not see through, worth the extra.

applesareredandgreen · 27/02/2016 18:56

If u want a fitted scoop neck long sleeve cotton - lucrative top I can wholly recommend Primark. They are only about £4.00. I have bought these over the last 4 years, and having also had similar T shirts from Next and Boden I have found the Primark ones far longer lasting and not shrinking in the wash (like the ones I had from Boden).

BikeRunSki · 27/02/2016 19:04

Howies' shirts are excellent. Currently only available in short sleeves, but worth keeping an eye on the website for long sleeves and Bretons.

BikeRunSki · 27/02/2016 19:08

I agree with Primark over Boden any day too! Similar quality but non-shrinky, and quarter the price.

Ginkypig · 28/02/2016 02:07

I can't comment on now but Iv got a few primark ones that have stayed perfect for years! Loads of colours, Iv got black, blue, a sort of red/pink one and a lovely black white stripy one.

Also had a couple of lovely black v neck ones from Dorothy Perkins which are still going strong having worn them for work (so lots) for at least 2 years

ScienceRocks · 28/02/2016 06:55

I was going to say Dorothy Perkins too. Had mine years, still going strong. Sainsburys are even cheaper and just as good.

Bolshybookworm · 28/02/2016 08:27

I have two of these that I have worn constantly for the last 5 years. No shrinking, no holes, they are absolutely brilliant (and on sale!). The quality is superb. They're cut on the long side.

American apparel sell some hideous tat but their basic tips are really good.
