What do people actually use talc for anyway?

I was reading this:

www.theguardian.com/world/2016/feb/24/johnson-johnson-72-millon-babuy-talcum-powder-ovarian-cancer?CMP=share_btn_fb

and realised that I have absolutely no idea what people use talc for anyway. Have I been missing a trick?

Last time I remember people using talc was to dry their feet after swimming when I was about 10. It's still in all the supermarkets and chemists though so people must use it for something. Do you use talc? What for?

For removing sand when leaving the beach. It removes the moisture so it just falls off! Only thing I've used it for in years.

fieldfare · 24/02/2016 15:53

Yep, for on the beach.
Dh uses it sometimes after he's showered after running or cycling when things are a little chaffed down there.

BettyBi0 · 24/02/2016 15:56

Ooh sand trick sounds great!

Verucca socks and squeaky floorboards.

mammmamia · 24/02/2016 16:04

In DD's swimming cap so it goes on smoothly. Absolutely nothing else

VertigoNun · 24/02/2016 16:05

I have some to use in my hair when it's on the greasy side.

RiverTam · 24/02/2016 16:08

In DD's swimming cap

I use it in the summer together with deodorant on the inner thigh and underboob. They get very sweaty Blush, though the underboob does that even if I'm just doing the hoovering I don't hoover much.

Nabootique · 24/02/2016 16:12

Same as Vertigo when I've run out of dry shampoo. There always seems to be some talc knocking about.

Madbengalmum · 24/02/2016 16:42

On holiday in my sandals to stop feet getting hot or rubbing

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/02/2016 16:51

Waxing;
Exfoliate, dusting of talcum, wax,

I don't use it any other times but I'm going to take some next time I'm on sand.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 24/02/2016 16:56

When I was young, talc was used after bathing to dry off after towelling dry. Think houses were colder then.

I like to put a dusting between clean sheets when I change the bed.

PinkPjamas · 24/02/2016 17:00

There's some in our bathroom and I've no idea why or where it's from. I did however decide to douse myself in it after a bath, once and it felt nice and I smelled lovely. And then I had to spend half an hour cleaning the floor...

SirVixofVixHall · 24/02/2016 17:05

I use it on feet in the Summer to stop sandals rubbing. I used to use it after every bath as a child, I would puff it all over myself with a huge fluffy puff, feeling like a 1930s film star. I LOVED it. I still love it, the powdery smell is so nice, but as a teen I read the link to ovarian cancer and stopped dusting it everywhere. Women used to use generally to freshen up, underarms, around bra, between thighs, but also all over the vulva and on santitary towels, hence the ovarian cancer issue.

SirVixofVixHall · 24/02/2016 17:05

Er sanitary, no santitary!!!

Cocolepew · 24/02/2016 17:12

I used to puff it all over me too.
I use it now in high shoes. I wear a half size too small in them and the talc stops my feet sticking.

ThursdayLastWeek · 24/02/2016 17:16

Under my enormous pregnant boobs after a bath to stop the rubbing.
And at the beach too, it's amazing for that!

nevertakeyouriphoneinthebath · 24/02/2016 17:19

I always use talc after the shower and I hate it if I run out. It just makes it easier to get my bra on without it sticking and dragging on damp skin.

nevertakeyouriphoneinthebath · 24/02/2016 17:20

I've never heard of using talc for the beach - good idea!

whatevva · 24/02/2016 17:21

Shaving armpits.

BennyTheBall · 24/02/2016 17:22

I epilate my armpits, so use a bit to make them really dry so it doesn't drag the skin.

I use the Baby Powder from my ds1's Bounty Pack - he is 17, so I don't think I'm too liberal with it!

fiorentina · 24/02/2016 18:54

Swimming hats only!

lighteningirl · 24/02/2016 19:05

I'm with Thursday I use it under my FF boobs and sometimes on my bum as I am at a certain sweaty age and my leggings get itchy, hope that's not tmi plus my talc matches my showergel/body lotion/day perfume and I like the layering very subtle scent it leaves.

Tate15 · 24/02/2016 20:26

I love talc! M&S do lovely ones. I use talc every day. As already mentioned it is a must have for the beach as if removes sand instantly.

Sometimes I just shake some into my hands and rub together and inhale the scent.

Talc is lovely puffed all over after I've dried after a bath or shower.

I'm not worried about the cancer link.

daisygreendaisylilac · 24/02/2016 20:28

It makes dressing children easier after swimming Grin

HarrysMummy17 · 24/02/2016 20:39

Ds's hairdresser recommended rubbing it around his neck after having his haircut to stop itching
