Socks! Where do you bu them

I don't seem to have any socks that fit at the moment so need more but not sure where to buy from.

I am size 6.5 which is generally too big when the sizing is 'One Size fits all'. The single size seems more appropriate for my 9 year old!

So, I'm looking for a decent size, no pattern and preferably not black. Oh, and I'd like to buy online if possible as haven't got time to shop.

Any ideas?

I'm a size 8 and have been buying multipacks of either M&S socks at the sales or at Primark. For years there was no discernible difference in quality, so I think both companies had the same supplier. However, I bought some socks from Primark a few weeks ago and am sorry to say that they are quite flimsy and not what they used to be. Haven't bought any from M&S in years either so I'm not sure what they're like. However in terms of size, I find the Primark socks more than adequate.

M&S. Every sock i have had from there have been fine, IO love the welly socks, too. Gap socks are pretty decent and they do some great patterns!

Bought some from H&M recently as i liked the colour but there wasn't enough elastic for me, and i hate socks that fall down!

WaterWorld · 23/02/2016 13:03

You tend to get a better choice of sizes and styles and fabrics in the mens' M&S section I find.

itshappenedagain · 23/02/2016 13:08

Asda George... There socks and tights are fantastic, keep there cute and have a wide selection.

looki · 23/02/2016 14:35

I have recently starting buying mine from Next. So far so good. My criteria was they had to be warm and Next seem to have some wool (or wool type) content.

arahia · 23/02/2016 15:03

TK Maxx.

walkingtheplank · 23/02/2016 16:07

Interesting that M&S has come up so many times. I used to always buy M&S but I found the one size fits all became too small. I actually gave one pack to my then 8 yr old daughter.
I am currently wearing M&S men's socks but they haven't retrained their shape so they slip down as I walk and I have to keep removing me shoes to pull them up.
I'll have a look at Next.

Tesco & sainsburys both do good socks IMO. I bought some thermal socks from tesco before Christmas & they're great. Not thick at all but very warm. I also have packs of their 'normal' socks & they're good too. My feet are size 7 & I find the one size ones are fine.

MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2016 17:16

Falke, via TK Maxx whenever possible.

MumOfTheMoment · 23/02/2016 17:18

I always buy m&s mens. Great choice, they tumble dry without a hint of shrinkage and they last for ages.

MumOfTheMoment · 23/02/2016 17:19

Although dm swears by Sainsburys.

Missionitreat · 23/02/2016 17:30

I'm a size 7 and I get my socks every year from M&S or John Lewis.

I ask my mum to get them for me for Christmas every year which she does so I always have really nice socks. In fact this year I didn't even ask and thought she might not have so I was actually really excited when my last present was socks Blush

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 23/02/2016 17:35

I always find nice ones in TKMaxx. My faves and longest-lasting are Pringle ones from there.

BikeRunSki · 23/02/2016 17:55

Happy Socks from Surfdome (online) and TKMaxx

Bamboo socks from Braintree. So soft, so comfy, warm in winter, cool in summer. Got some about a year ago. Unlike every other pair of socks I have ever had, they have not gone through at the toes. Bargain.

jasmine1979 · 23/02/2016 18:05

I used to swear by M&S. I found the quality just doesn't reflect the price anymore though and now usually buy from Asda, Dorothy Perkins or New Look. Some of the ones in New Look and Dorothy Perkins are too thin but it's worth going and looking.
I also recently had a couple of more expensive pairs from Barbour. They wore through and had holes in them within a couple of weeks. So disappointed, as I had thought they were lovely. Sad

maybemyrtle · 23/02/2016 19:22

MrsSeanBean took the words out of my mouth - Falke ones, from TK Maxx.

ThomasSofty · 23/02/2016 19:22

Also really like Pringle socks from TK Maxx, they wash really well and are nice and stretchy.

cressetmama · 23/02/2016 19:52

Corrymoor....your feet will love you, but your wallet won't.

BikeRunSki · 23/02/2016 20:04

Oh yes, I have some of those cressetmama. Very warm.

Bananajam · 23/02/2016 20:17

Another vote for Asda George - they have multipacks of cashmere blend socks which are really warm and cosy in dark and pastel colours. Highly recommended!

EverybodyHatesATourist · 23/02/2016 20:35

Yet another vote for Pringle from TKMaxx, they are so long-lasting compared to other brands. I'm a wide size 8 and have never had problems with the fit plus they do a version with soft-grip ankles so you don't have a ridge in your skin when you take them off.

walkingtheplank · 23/02/2016 23:20

Thanks for all the tips. TK Maxx seems to be the most popular. I've only been to TK Maxx once, about 9-10 yrs ago. I shall venture in again.

Although rather liking the bamboo ones by Braintree online...

Gap socks are nice

Drinksforeveryone · 24/02/2016 11:50

I like these at the moment.

bambooclothing.co.uk/store/show_product/UA631-THR

Very colourful and patterned - so not what you really wanted.

But they are so soft and comfortable. Don't smell either!

I didn't pay that - they often have promotions on the website.

DS has some in men's size too. His feet are a 12! but the socks seem to be stretchy enough to accommodate his plates!
