Etsy - any thoughts on the quality? Have you bought from here? Jewellery

I've seen a few pieces of jewellery I'd like.

Just wondered if anyone can comment on the quality if they've experience of it.

I've bought a couple of pairs of earrings from two different UK sellers. They good for the price.

I bought a pendant on there that I wore through my whole pregnancy and labour. It's now wrapped around the top bar of DDs cot (she can't reach it).
Mine is lovely quality but isn't etsy all different sellers? So it would depend on who you buy from really, bit like eBay.

Yes - I try and find UK based sellers to avoid customs charges or try folksy instead.

Etsy is a market place for sellers. Which shop are you looking at? There are low, mid and high end shops on Etsy.

Trills · 21/02/2016 14:56

Etsy is not shop, it's a marketplace.

So there's no way to comment on the quality in general, it will depend on the seller.

As far as I know there's no official checking of quality. If buyers complain people may get booted off, but quality still varies hugely.

Look at the feedback from previous buyers, and bear in mind that "OMG it's great 5 stars" is an indication of being good for the price, and if that price is cheap then you still shouldn't expect too much even if the reviews are good.

As others have said, it varies by the seller. The only jewellery I've bought from there was a pair of earrings, which were fine. I've bought tons of other stuff tho, and you need to spend 5 mins looking at the item, and looking at other items the seller makes - I have bought some amazing stuff from there where I've been wowed by the sellers talent, but some sellers might just make things as a hobby and the skill level can vary. The majority of items on Etsy are handmade, and you are paying for the materials, time and skills. If something seems very cheap there's probably a reason for that.

I love Etsy. I always make sure to check their other items to get an idea of quality and check reviews. I have a number of lovely things from various Etsy sellers.

I've had some gorgeous well made things and some stuff that wasn't as great. Read reviews carefully. The best stuff I've bought was from a Canadian shop, the worst was the US, not that that helps you!
