Comfiest bra recommendations please!

I've been measured at 30D by Rigby and Peller but all my bras just hurt, even the super expensive new ones they fitted! Part of the problem is I have no padding on my chest wall and the bit under the under wiring at the sides is sore. I am looking for a soft comfy bra for wearing round the house and in the evenings....I obviously don't need lots of support just something for a bit of shape. Anyone tried anything nice- even cotton type crop tops could be an option, I suppose?

I bought some M&S ones recently, called sumptuously soft. If you can ignore the name, they are by far the comfiest bra I've ever had.

Sloggi do good crop tops, including some with spaghetti straps which are very good for layering.

It's also worth checking out yoga tops with the foam cup inserts which give shape without having to be horribly tight and restrictive.

I have the m problem as you and straps are always uncomfy. These are made of a soft foam like fabric, supportive and comfy.

which brands have you tried?
I have little padding on the ribcage too (also measure a 30 band) but I find freya bras (not deco - too structured) and cleo bras the most comfortable

Those M&S sumptuously soft bras are incredible! Comfiest bras I've ever owned. I've bought all the colours!!! I have the full cup ones I think.

go up a back size in M&S bras though. If you can even find one that is a 30, it will only usually go up to a B cup. If you do find one with a larger cup, the band will be agonisingly tight.

Never rely on what size youve been measured at.

I bought the M&S sumptuously soft one- they do a 30 band. Interesting to read about going up a band size, I hadn't found that so much, but on reflection, the very few bras I have from M&S are 32C, so I'll see how it feels! Felt good in the changing room.

The thing with the "proper" sizing, is it gives a great shape but I wonder if it's no so good for the toast rack rib cages amongst us....

Could be the shape - I'm not that skinny but always get bruises from Panache bras, just a wrong shape for me.

No item of clothing should cause pain and discomfort, whether it's tight shoes, waistbands or bra straps.

Support and shape is all very well, but a lot of bras have features which compromise how comfortable they are even if they 'fit' according to the rules - eg narrow bands, bands made of hard or scratchy fabrics, and underwires. We are all different and just having the same measurements as someone else doesn't mean that the same bra will suit you.

True but it's an expensive trawl as many feel ok on and then are agony after a few hours. Rigby and Peller fitted me with 2 news bras with the right size and shape (Marie Jo) but they're still pretty uncomfortable. Sense of rubbing around the band and at the edges of the wiring. I just want something comfortable to slob in after work and at weekends! Will feed back on the M&S sumptuously soft ones.. Thanks so much for advice, will try Freya for my next "proper" bra

Oh i know! I've been properly fitted so i know my size, and have tried many variations, but have come to the conclusion that i just dont do normal bras. So crop tops and yoga tops it is, and they are perfectly fine - no drooping, pinching or scratching :)

I've had exactly the same thing recently - and my rigby & P bra is so uncomfortable. I got a lepel one from figleaves that is quite comfy, it rubbed the first time I wore it but settled very quickly compared to the others I tried. It feels fine just looks a bit grannyish.

Don't waste time with the 'softest ever' one from Debenhams. They have a good range of sizes but what's the point if the wires stick into your ribs?! You can feel kinks in them from the outside, they aren't well made at all.

As j now only have 1 bra that 80% works, I'm all ears about the m&s one! I thought they only stared at 32 though?

And yes GlassJar I'm starting to think yoga bras are the way forward too!

I second (or is it third?) the Sumptuously Soft bras, with one caveat. The band and cup size seem to vary between colours so always try them on before you buy. The black one fits me perfectly but the nude one is a tad big in the cups and the pink one a bit tight in the band.

In terms of measurement it's actually quite common for very slender women to need a size up from what they measure under the bust. I know rigby and peller fit rather than measure but more for others reading. The band size the same as underbust in inches idea is right on average, but those with ery little rib padding often need to go up one whilst on the flip side it's common for larger ladies to need to go down 1 or more bands to get adequate support
