Mac lipsticks

I've always been a lip gloss girl but now I'm growing my hair out it sticks to my lips and judging by recent trends, slightly dated.

Mac lipsticks seem to be very popular -are they worth it?

I am a recent convert to Mac lipsticks.

I have used Chanel, L'Oreal, Maybelline, Bourjois, Bobbi Brown etc. over the years and can say with confidence that Mac are the absolute best in terms of colours, consistency, wearability and finish.

Mac Russian Red...the sex.

MAC are my favourite lipsticks .
The matte versions last ages .
Colour and pigment is far better than other brands.

I've recently bought Smashbox Infrared Matte & am very impressed. Amazing pigment and staying power. Smashbox don't have has been a colour choice as MAC though

I think it's the colour choice I like best with Mac, there quite literally seems to be everything. I like moisturising lipsticks though in mauvey pink shades on a daily basis and I think plenty of the high street brands do those just as well.

That said, I am also a HUGE Russian Red fan. Love it.

Yep I love mac lipstick, I got my first one in instigator last year and wow it just makes you stand out so much!

I am mainly a lip gloss person too (mainly Vaseline lip balm - it makes the best colourless lip gloss that I have tried - not too wet look or hair sticking either).

I also seriously rate Mac lustre lipsticks. I think it's described as a semi-sheen. I don't like look or feel of matte lipsticks on me. This one feels and looks just right to me.

Sisley long-lasting lipsticks are the very best. Twice as good as Mac imho (which I used to wear for years!). Problem is the cost...very very exxy. That said, one will last for a very very long time because they're so highly pigmented it only takes a miniscule bit on a lipbrush to do the job.

Mac have a better colour selection though...

I used to wear Mac lipsticks, they were lovely.
I don't know what has happened but the quality has gone completely down hill!

All the lipsticks sit on my lips and some are greasy and nothing like the old Mac of yesteryear. I had a conversation with an old friend of a similar age and she said the same thing!

I used to by a lot from the Mac shop in Brighton, it used to be a lovely small shop, nicer than going to London, but now long gone.

Tate15 what do you use now, please?

Mac are great for colours but I also like:
Lancome: moisturising lipsticks which are rich in colour and last beat Mac, even if colour range is not so wide.
Armani: Ditto.

Hourglass: pigment is fantastic.

I've worn a Rouge d'Armani lipstick for weeks now, it is great. For me, what my lips feel like is crucial - I love creamier textures. Totally agree that for everyday pinky mauves high street brands are hitting it out of the park, my favorite is Kiko Intensely Lavish (£3.40).

Mac have a massive selection of colours and finishes, but I hate the taste/smell and some of the finishes dry my lips out to the point of being painful and peeling - surprisingly enough not the Retro Matte and Matte finishes which are known for being really drying.

Thanks everyone else, I will look into your other suggestions. I do normally find lipstick too 'heavy' but then again I am a bit strange!
