What colour eyeliner for brown eyes?

Gah! Have been wearing a nice blue Chantecaille waterproof eyeliner and love it but they've discontinued the blue. I have a choice of black, a mauve/purple, grey or brown. Scared of the purple tbh so which will I try? Sticking to,this brand as it's the one and only eyeliner I have found which stays put and doesn't smudge.

I use grey! Had a makeup trial and they suggested grey to be the nicest match - looks lovely against brown eyes!

I was always surprised that brown eye liner doesn't work with brown eyes, but it makes me look tired.

Purple really does look fab but go fir the grey if you'd not dare.

I have hazel eyes and brown is awful!!! Grey is the colour of choice. Blue looks nice and brings out the colour in my eyes but feel its a bit garish sometimes at my age. Grey is softer. Green is also good for me. You could also try that? Purple is a no no for my colouring. Makes my eyes look bloodshot!!!

Oh is brown awful on hazel? - I wear that a lot, or very dark green

I love Barry M metallics but they don't last long.

Oooh that Nars colour looks pretty good. Grey ordered - can't wait til it comes! Okay, I have hooded lids and apply to my lower lash line ... Space NK lady did a full line and smudged it when I bought the blue. I've been going half way along recently. What will open my eyes up more - maybe the lower line is too 80's but if I do upper it just replicates on my eyelid iyswim. Any advice ladies? Really need to update my look!
