Right, I made the mistake of looking in a mirror in natural daylight and I seem to have been breeding grey hairs . I am naturally brown haired and pale skinned ....I usually use a semi permanent colour every couple of months but it just isn't cutting it anymore. Budget is tight - can I get away with home permanent dyes ? Am worried it will just be a solid block of colour !

What would happen if you mixed some permanent in with semi permanent colour?

How about some fine highlights to blend the greys? I coloured mine for years.. usually semi permanents at home, and the odd salon permanent. But I was never truly happy with it.. always too dark at first then always faded with a gingery tinge! I had a few ashy highlights to avoid the blocky look...and am now 7 months into being natural!! I'm watching grey streaks appear with interest :)

I have highlighted DD1's hair (mousey blonde) for years (she's 24 not 10 :D ) and it's fine!

Thank you! Not sure what would happen if I mixed 2 dyes! An explosion knowing bmy luck!
Medusa, that sounds good....do you mean you had it highlighted once then just let nature take its course?

I use Loreal Castings #5 Medium Brown. It's actually dark brown but any lighter doesn't stick to greys. It's not a true semi so it fades a bit but I find it does cover the greys- I have to leave it a good 40 mins.

To get around the issue of my hair getting too dark I just paint the roots with the colour otherwise it will get darker as doesn't completely wash off. I mix 1/2 of the two products in a bowl and save the rest for next time.

You need to do it every six weeks really.

What if you get some highlights? They greatly help me hide my few grey hairs.
Look at some highlights on therighthairstyles.com/category/hair-color/hair-highlights/ .
