Is it ok to apply makeup at work?

Say you go to work with your moisturizer and sunblock and apply the rest when you're there, in the office bathroom, before work starts?

Depends on whether you keep it nice and simple (concealer, mascara lipstick) or go full make-up counter style with a vanity case and 15 brushes. That would be weird!

I don't get this unless you cycle to work and shower there - why not just do it at home instead of getting into work early to do it?

I put moisturiser on which includes sunblock, dry my hair, then put make up on, brush teeth, check i am still non scary looking then travel by public transport to work....thought this was the norm, have I misunderstood?

No problem with the confidence op has to get to work and then do make up, wish I had it, assuming makeup application is not included in working hours?

I do this when I do a very long early train commute (I travel to different clients) as I often fall asleep and can rub my eyes and look a mess.

In the bathroom yes for sure. At your desk absolutely not.

Whether it's ok or not... I don't see how it helps anything. Unless you're cycling to work in summer for instance and sweating and want to freshen up at work. Why else wouldn't you just do it at home, as pp said, as part of everything else you do to leave home in the morning.

In my case, because of the train schedule. I arrive 20 mins before work, plenty of time for me to apply makeup (I just apply makeup basics).

Just thought I could use the time to sleep longer.

Apparently, according to some articles, it is frowned upon by some in the corporate world.

I think it's fine (within reason) at your desk too, I sometimes reapply mine at lunchtime at my desk.

A woman in my work does this. She gets into work then goes into the toilet and applies a full face of make-up. I've got to admit I find it a bit strange and it can be awkward if you need a bit of, erm, privacy in the toilets and she's in there for ages. No idea why she does it though!

OP I sometimes commute to work in good time then put my makeup on. So at least im in work and know i wont be late because of trains and get a bit of a lay in. I do it in loo but I re apply at desk during working hours and I work for big corporate city of london company. A lot of us women do it. No one bats an eyelid.
Those that say not in working hours what sort of company do you work for? Its not the victorian times. Different if you are sitting there serving the public. But re applying whilst sitting in a main office is no big deal.

I wouldn't say I see it a lot but definitely have seen it and not thought anything if it. Perfectly fine.

I also work in the corporate world, I see it more in our London offices than in the ones at other places around the country.

I prefer do to this while I am waiting for my computer to get started and the kettle is boiling my tea!

I said not in working hours. And I didn't mean reapplying. I mean the whole face thing start to finish is like getting dressed and shouldn't be done in work time.

If you can't 'meet the public' because you've got one eye done then you're not ready for work.

Reapplying lippy or powder is totally different to that first face of the day.

Oh. I'm going to change my answer based on your latest post. 20 min is huge in the morning and in your case I'd save both make up and breakfast to do during that time. Def sleep more!

dudsville - my schedule choices are arrive 20 mins early, or 5 mins before work. I'm always scared of the latter schedule (because what if the train schedule goes wonky) so I'm always there 20 mins early.

Oh, and I don't wear makeup unless it's for work so I'm okay with facing the world with just my sunblock and coffee mug.

Same as Kennington - I do base, blush, eyebrows, lip balm at home and then finish off my eyes when I get to work. It's a two hour drive so I can get blurry eyes on the way there, so no point putting mascara on before I set off.
