I have a scar, about 1" long , the stitches are out, it's still a bit bruised and red but knitting well.

As it's on my face it's very visible, I'm not that bothered about how it looks so much (I am past all that) but I want to treat it while it's new (unlike my poor stretch marks)

So-
what do I apply?

It's only ten days old so I might need to leave it a while.

Hi, I had a c section and was part of a trial for a product called silgel which is designed to reduce scars. I used it twice a day for 16 weeks I think and I can honestly say it worked! I've hardly got a scar now. I don't think you can use it for a good whole after surgery though but I cant remember the exact timeline. The trial was because the manufacturers were planning to release the product to the general public because it had only been available via surgeons previously. Just googled it and you can buy it on amazon or direct from their website. Google silgel and have a read up on it. HTH!

Bio oil or super drug equivalent is good (veteran scar monster)

Almond oil. Keeps the skin soft so it doesn't pull.

Bio oil was recommended here at the hospital. Keep applying/massaging in even after it seems to be healing

After fairly major surgery my surgeon recommended Dermatix Gel (a silicone gel, presumably similar to the one mentioned upthread) and it worked brilliantly.

Dermatix silicon sheets first then later dermatix gel.
After that once it has settled (well over 6 months) look at a dermaroller.

Dermatix (both silicon sheets and the gel) is expensive but it is really worth it. I used it after had some stitches (recommended by dr) and it is great.

You can cut it to size btw so if your scar is small a big sheet lasts for ages.
