What wil happen if I wash a leather skirt?

I bought it on eBay an it was a bargain so not a huge amount of money at stake. It I a lovely skirt but slightly too big, will washing shrink it, do nothing, or ruin it??

I would not wash it, only spot treat any stains.

If you need it altered why not have it done professionally so it fits properly and flatters you?

It may go hard , you could machine wash it but as it dries it will stiffen . You will need to work the leather as it dries to avoid this . Be aware it also may not get it clean so may be pointless .

I've washed leather leggings. No ill effects at all, tightened the leather back up but didn't shrink it. Google for machine washing leather.

Thanks all. I could get it altered but i suspect altering a leather skirt would cost a lot and I only paid £20 for it. Just googled washing leather, seems that people do do this, although it can make the leather look more matt.
