I popped into town this morning and thought I'd treat myself to some new makeup in mac. On spur of the moment I picked up a foundation brush, thinking it would be about a tenner.

£33!!!

Don't tell dp!!

For that price I'd want it to come to life like the broomsticks in Fantasia and put my makeup on for me while I slept

I've just tried it out, and it IS a nice brush, but no micky magic.

OP that's a lot of only but I've heard they last forever and don't shed bristles so it'll pay for itself in time. I hope you feel better!

I stumbled on to QVC last night and saw they had a foundation brush for about £55, I was like but then I saw it spun round and round all by itself. It was amazing yet crap all at the same time!

Given that I haven't spent a penny on foundation brushes in 42 years I'm not sure the "it'll pay for itself" argument would work! I'm trying to imagine dp's face if I told him that!

Ah OK. Well given you needed a new brush... You know the saying, 'buy cheap twice'. I'm really trying to help here.

Do they use a magic glue to stick the bristles onto the brush?
Be careful not to soak it while cleaning it otherwise that 33 quid won't last.

Real Techniques brushes are pretty good and offer a cheaper alternative! I buy mine from Amazon.

I did something similar once but with moisturiser. No assistant on the counter in Boots so I picked up what looked like the same as I'd had before and put it in my basket. Off I goes to get my other bits and bobs then off to the till yo pay. my face when it came to over £100, turns out this little pot of cream was £60 not the twenty odd I'd had before and before anyone asks no it wasn't bloody with it! Lesson learned, put your glasses on and check the price

iloveto my Mac brushes all shed like hell and that's a common complaint of mac brushes. I'm surprised you've heard that they don't shed!

I prefer real technique but MAC eye brushes and stippling brushes for foundation are very good.

Keep it well shaped OP (washing often and storing in the plastic cover to keep its shape) and it will last a long time (some of mine are 15years + old and still in good nick despite shedding bits now and then)

Oh no! There is a thread on here saying the RT brushes shed and Mac are much better. I'm confused now. I only have non-big name ones and am on the look out for recs for good ones. I've also heard Zoeva are good but who knows now! Like OP says, it's an expensive business.

I've had a Mac brush for 17 years, no shedding whatsoever.

I just bought a bunch of Real Techniques and Ecotools. My total was $47 AUD.

My Mac brushes shed ridiculously. I had black hairs on my chin my chin chin and the rest of my face after applying foundation with one. I have a Trish McEvoy one now which I love. Have also bought some real techniques ones recently, some better than others.

Most of MAC brushes are meant to be worth the money. If you experience any problems with shedding, make sure you take it back because for that price it should be perfect. I'd opt for Real Techniques in the future :-) or some ZOEVA brushes, pricey, but you do get a lovely set for around £60.00 which will have you covered for all of your makeup needs!

My Mac brushes also shred like mo'fos.

I much prefer Eco Tools, Real Technique or Zoeva. All better, all cheaper

I thought you might be talking about a hairbrush so came on here to rant about Mason Pearsons.

$300AUD to rip my hair to shreds and spread grease all over my scalp. Worst purchase ever.

Their combs are nice though.
