Long Bob - fine hair

I currently have waist length hair that is too much effort now I have a baby. Now I don't have the time to spend and hour drying/styling, it's usually flat as a pancake or I put it up.

Has anyone gone to a long bob after having long hair? Will it be less maintenance in terms of styling? Does fine hair work with this style?

I had all my long hair cut into a pixie and am now growing it back into a long bob. You will still need to style it if you want it to look halfway decent. Mine needs a bit of volumising mousse or spray and blowdrying, so the ends dont flick out in the wrong direction. It only takes 5-10 minutes but quite often I cba and it looks scruffy.

That said I really like it when I have made the effort and my hair feels better without the weight of long hair pulling on my scalp. It has also been good for making me put some effort in and not just stick it in a ponytail.

Bear in mind you may still need it long enough to be able to tie it back, I nearly got mine cut too short and couldn't get it all out of reach of the baby for a while.

10 minutes sounds manageable. I suppose even the lowest maintenance cut still needs styling.

Excellent point about still being able to pit it up out of reach of grabby little hands! I was thinking of shoulder length or just above.

I've always had very long hair so it seems a big deal!

I had my long hair cut to just above shoulder length a few years ago. I'd had long hair for many years before that so it seemed like a big deal to me made even bigger when the hairdresser was cutting it and two of the trainees looked over and one of them exclaimed "look at x's client having all that hair cut off" eeeek!

Anyway, I loved it. Mine is naturally fine and wavy so I could just rough dry mine or wash it and sleep on it (that's how it looked best). I've now had it cut even shorter but think I've gone too far... I am a bit sick of not being able to put it up, so am growing it back to a longer bob. I have a toddler who likes to grab my hair too.

I think fine hair suits a long bob much more than waist length hair. When it's waist length it just gets dragged down whereas when it's shoulder length it has much more bounce.

Think of the drying time you'll save!

Lady glad someone else had the chop! Usually when I go to the hairdresser, they can't believe how long it is. Sounds much easier to manage. I have straight hair though, your waves sound lovely.

Is shoulder length still long enough to put up easily? Yikes about the toddler. I was hoping it that 6 month old DD would stop soon!

I think you're right mitzy it is weighed down with the length and can look a bit ratty. Although my hair is fine, I have a lot of it or did before pregnancy. I will save so much time and look much more presentable!

Hi. May I suggest you invest in a Babyliss Big Hair? I have a longish bob and very fine and kinky (rather than wavy) hair. It is so easy to style using the BBH and really keeps its shape the day after too. Makes doing the back dead easy too.

Are they easy to use? I have seen them but terrified of getting it stuck. I have bad memories of having round brush cut out of my hair as a child

I like that pando. I was thinking a touch longer but I like the general style. I don't suit anything other than a side fringe plus find full fringes are v high maintenance.

I'm currently quite a light blonde, I'm considering jumping on the balayage bandwagon too so that regrowth doesn't look so obvious.

I got a long bob, longer at the front than the back, last spring. After having long hair for most of my life. It was the best decision of my life! I love it! I can still style it nicely for a night out, it straightens lovely for every day, and looks fab just left to dry from wet.

I went a bit edgy and got my hair ombré brown to blonde.

Bobs are definitely in season though!

Having it long was weighing my fine hair down. It is now much more bouncy and so much quicker to dry then style. I can't tie mine up but that's probably a good thing as I got into the habit of always having it in a pony tail when long.

Yay, another positive experience. How long is your Bob. I know what you mean about tying it up, I have it up pretty much every day.

My hair gets tangled so easily. I'm looking forward to not having a battle with the hair brush constantly

I've got very fine straight hair and a long bob. Really easy to style, rough dry then curl under the ends with a babyliss big hair and it's done. Loads easier than when it was long and looks "done" much more often than it did before. Mines a bit shorter at the back and a bit layered.

Haha sorry OP, mine is 13 months and still loves grabbing playing with my hair! I had off the shoulder length to start with, which for me was a little too short to put up without lots of bits hanging out. Shoulder length might be fine.

OP - if you are having the chop, would you consider donating the chopped hair to charity? Just a thought - not meaning to sideline the original question!

I had mine cut off a few years ago, and went quite short which I loved, but too short or too much of a 'style' can be frustrating when short on time as it takes a lot of 'doing' for it to look right.

I now have a longish straight bob, which is easy peasy. My hair is fine, so I stick with a sleek long bob that I can just blast dry and run the straighteners over. Also long enough to tie back, but tbh, I don't do that often as its so easy to wear down. Saves hours per week in drying it!

I can also give it a messy wave by turning the straighteners and using a bit of surf spray.

I went from bra-strap length hair to a jaw length slightly angled bob a few weeks ago.

My hair is very fine and very straight and whilst I liked it long and could plait it, put it up etc it looked quite lank when down; the weight of it just made it look flat and limp.

Now it's lovely, takes minutes to dry and I can use my GHDs to flick it out or under, or put some waves in it.

I donated it to charity too, better putting it to good use than throwing it away - www.littleprincesses.org.uk/

I would absolutely love to donate it. I didn't think I'd be able to as it's coloured but reading that, it seems I can. Fabulous idea.

I love the idea of it taking so little time to dry and style. It sounds as though I will have more options with a long bob than currently as I only wear it in a ponytail...due to little grabbing hands and how untidy it seems to look!

Shoulder length hair is much easier to put up compared to long, less hair to pull through the hair band with each twist.

Try it - the thing about hair is that it grows back!

Also, shorter (straight) hair tends to make you look younger and more sophisticated IMO.
