Chop off all my hair? Too much?

OK, money is very tight and I'm pissed off with my hair. It's already a short crop, but longer then I usually like it. I seriously cannot afford a proper haircut so was wondering if I'd look hideous with a number eight all over clippers job? Would it be too much? I clipper DH and DS2 and I'm up for doing it myself.

I wouldn't do it tbh. Wouldn't all your hair end up exactly the same length creating a microphone effect? My DH does his v short and when he hasn't done it for a while it looks very microphoney... That's not a word... Microphonesque? Anyway, it doesn't look good.

I don't know what to suggest as an alternative though. Could someone cut it with scissors for you? A friend or something? There are tutorials on YouTube if you are absolutely desperate, but in reality I would not cut my own hair except if it was quite long - there is a trick where you tie your hair up and cut he end off your pony tail but it obviously doesn't work on short hair. Even then I'd be wary.

I wouldn't personally. It might end up looking bad if it's all one length iykwim. An old colleague used to have very short hair he cut with clippers and when he hadn't done it for a while and it got quite long it sort of sat round his head and looked a little bit like a microphone.

I don't know what else to suggest though. There are tutorials online for cutting hair with scissors, so maybe someone could do that for you. Though I'd still be a bit scared of it going wrong tbh. Sorry I'm not being terribly helpful!

Could you go to a college for a student hair stylist to cut it or maybe shop around for a mobile hair stylist? They can sometimes be a bit cheaper I think.

omg how embarrassing - I posted the first and then started to post again but changed my DH to an 'old colleague' as I thought it was a bit mean of me to mention DH! Blush

Serves me right.

Have you considered trying to find a barber rather than a hairdresser? They are cheaper usually but some won't cut women's hair, even if you just want a short back and sides.
