Something that actually works to repair nails.

Looking for something to massage into nails or paint on that actually works rather than making them look better for 5 mins! I really like the burts bees lemon butter cuticle cream but I don't feel it actually does anything if that makes sense....

Hi. I really rate Mavala Scientifique. You paint on a very small amount once or twice a week. It 'bonds' any split nails as a short term fix but long term use (be patient, wait for a full nail to grow out) really does produce strong nails for me. Very impressed. I don't like Mavala polishes etc but this product seems to work for me.

Wolfiefan · 28/01/2016 23:47

Mavala stuff is ace!
OPI nail envy.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 28/01/2016 23:47

OP I should say this is good for weak/split nails. Is that the issue with yours?

Jaeme · 29/01/2016 00:11

A good cuticle oil will help.

I went through a phase where no matter what I did my nails were breaking really easily. My friend gave me some CND solar oil and it helped loads just massaging it into nails and cuticles a few times a day.

Have also heard good things about OPI avoplex although not tried it myself.

Leighton Denny's Renovate cream (part of the M&S Beauty Advent calendar this year) is the only thing that's fixed my flaking nails - which were caused by Leighton Denny nail varnish in the first place. That, and/or hair, skin & nails vitamins taken regularly.

CND Rescuer Rx if you have damaged nails, Dadi Oil if you don't have damage, just want them to be generally healthier and stronger.

Try the one week Vaseline challenge!

Massage Vaseline into your nails each night at bedtime and I guarantee you will have longer and stronger nails at the end of the week.

MoggieMaeEverso · 29/01/2016 09:06

Tate do you put the Vaseline on under cotton gloves or just massage it in?

readyforno2 · 29/01/2016 10:15

Shamelessly following. I have heard of the Vaseline challenge just never properly looked into it.
As a polish, I really like the Nailtiques protein formula 2. It really strengthens your nails.

CointreauVersial · 29/01/2016 13:32

I'm also loving the Leighton Denny Renovate cream. Gives the nail a lovely "waxed" finish too.

Take loads of Vit D. Get some vigorous exercise at least 3 times a week. Don't wear nail polish for a while (a week), try to get some sunlight on your skin and hands.

Those things will help the nails to grow more strongly in the first place. In the meantime put on as much goop as you can manage, but healthier nails is better than patched up ones.

Vit D helps with dry skin as well.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/01/2016 19:02

IBX. It's an in salon treatment. It transforms damaged nails.
CND rescue RXX is a rub in treatment that strengthens. Again excellent.
To maintain healthy nails you need to be rubbing cuticle oil into the nail and cuticle every day, whether you are wearing polish/an enhancement or not. Solar oil or OPI or China glaze cuticle oils are very good. Cheap ones are usually just mineral oil and do nothing.

Sally Hansen vitamin E oil works for me, where Nail Envy and other pricier things haven't. You do have to do it at least twice a day (before bed and in my commute) for about a month, I reckon.
