Did you dye your hair when pregnant?

Just that. I've made it to almost 36 weeks without dyeing mine but it looks awful with loads of grey where I don't want it. Hairdresser was non-committal and I want to go it myself anyway. Should I wait another few weeks or go for it?

I had a full head of bleach all through my first pregnancy. I honestly felt the "risk" was tiny.

I'm 29 weeks and debating whether to do mine. My hairdresser won't so would have to do it myself. My grey hairs seem to all be near the front of my head, for all the world to see!

doleritedinosaur · 23/01/2016 10:20

Yes I did after 14 weeks, I dyed it twice as my roots were so bad.

UninspiredName · 23/01/2016 10:21

My greys are all so obvious. I have very dark brown hair so I'm starting to look like a badger :D

Yes root touch up every six weeks through both pregnancies.

Really not something I see as risky. I think you'd need to swim in hair dye daily for there to be a risk.

Aquamarine70 · 23/01/2016 14:08

I was always told by hairdressers that dyeing is fine it's just perms that won't take right. Your hair feels thicker as you are not shedding the hair whilst pregnant. the usual hair loss slows down so you don't lose as many hairs then after a few months after the birth or stopping bf you then shed the hair. I always had my hair done with all 3 of my pregnancies. The tint doesn't penetrate the scalp to be a risk to the baby.

WipsGlitter · 23/01/2016 14:18

Sort of. My hairdresser did it but, in a slightly different way so it wasn't an all over colour where the dye touched my scalp. I think he used foils (dark hair). He said he wouldn't let his wife colour her hair when pregnant.

smugmumofboys · 23/01/2016 14:22

I had mine done regularly in both pregnancies.

The only issue was that with DS2 my scalp was horribly sensitive; my head was burning so much the hairdresser had to remove the dye and use a gentler one instead.

dementedpixie · 23/01/2016 14:22

NHS says it's ok to do but that some women wait until after the first trimester

dementedpixie · 23/01/2016 14:24

I had mine done in both of my pregnancies

Bunbaker · 23/01/2016 14:24

Yes. It never occurred to me not to. I didn't want to look like a granny.

LoadsaBlusher · 23/01/2016 21:41

Yes , I had my hair highlighted / coloured as per normal every 6-8 weeks during both of my pregnancies.

mrslebon · 23/01/2016 23:09

I'm 33 weeks and have just had my roots done. I coloured my hair all through my first pregnancy too.

burnishedsilver · 23/01/2016 23:53

Yes. Coloured as usual through all 3 pregnancies. No doctor ever mentioned not to.

Greengardenpixie · 24/01/2016 00:11

God yes!!!!! but only after 12 weeks. All my babies were fine :)

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 24/01/2016 00:13

Yes, and it was fine.

randomcatname · 24/01/2016 02:51

yes yes yes

Euripidesralph · 24/01/2016 20:28

Yep and it was absolutely fine.... I asked every midwife I could about it and they all said it was fine

5minutestobed · 24/01/2016 20:30

Yes I dye mine at home and did last time round as well.

NoMilkNoSugar · 24/01/2016 20:30

I had foils so there was minimum amount of dye touching my scalp.

Marmite27 · 24/01/2016 20:45

After 12 weeks, and my hairdresser did it.

I was booked in to have it done again at 38 weeks, but my waters went at 37+6.

dinodiva · 24/01/2016 23:20

Hell yes. Got mine done around 38 weeks - now have 18 week old DD and not had time to get it done since.

Ratbagcatbag · 24/01/2016 23:22

Full head of colour every five to six weeks all through. Dd now three next month and still having it done due to More and more greys.
