Can I have red hair?!

IHeartKingThistle · 22/01/2016 22:38

I am so bored with my hair I could cry. I have been growing it for 2 years and now it is long and even more boring. I wear it up or back in clips, all the time. There is a lot of it. I don't have a fringe.

At the moment I have no colour on it, but I am definitely starting to get noticeable grey hairs now although I'm 36 so I suppose I've got away with it for a while! It is light-ish brown. I was blonde for years and years before the DC (when it got too much of a hassle!) but I'm thinking I need a full-on change now!

Ideally I want to look like Emma Stone in this pic (I wish!). I am really, really pale with a strong jaw (in an OK way!) and blue eyes. Oh and I wear glasses, which is a pain in the arse for figuring out haircuts. Is red going to make me look horrendous? Any advice gratefully received!

Can I have red hair?!

Of course you can wear red - red rocks!

So many different shades to chose from, speak to your hairdresser.

Personally, I have been using Lush Henna maron/brun for several years now and don't see myself stopping any time soon - long hair, pale skin, 49, glasses.
And I look great Grin

My natural hair colour is pretty bang on that. The cut is similar (but frizzier unless I can be bothered doing it properly) I'm also pale but with green eyes and with glasses and a strong jawline. The colour and cut suits me. Sounds like it would suit you too. It's not that wild or crazy go for it!!

Normally light brown hair (not that it's been it's normal colour for years), long, pale skinned, grey eyes and using Olia Intense Red for a wonderful colour. My hair is below waist length and curly and looks awesome. I'm 46

Ooh loving the positivity!

Go for it, I have flaming pillarbox red hair and I absolutely love it, hides the grey and works with my glasses too.

LittleCandle · 22/01/2016 23:02

I've been varying shades of red on and off (flirted with purple and my natural blonde in between times) for the last 16 years. I love it. I buy hair dye from salon services and mix and match. My hair is a different colour every time it is done. I'm 50. My hair is very short, as it is very fine and very thin and that is the only way to make it look half decent!

Go for it! Its only hair; if you don't like it, dye it another colour!

Kilmeny · 22/01/2016 23:02

Ps I have a short blunt bob with a fringe.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/01/2016 00:59

It's only hair! Excited now!

Ive been a similar shade to this before & I used the hair dye Loreal feria in intense mango copper (my hair was like a light-mid warm brown before) & I got a lot of compliments on my hair colour! It's like a natural intense copper colour, really nice.

PacificDogwod · 23/01/2016 16:14

You do realise that you are obliged to post pictures once it's done, don't you? It's The Law! WinkGrin

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/01/2016 16:33

Been a redhead for 2 years now and never going back! You just need to get the right shade. Bear in mind that it can e high maintenance compared even to blonde. I love mine despite that though.

burnishedsilver · 23/01/2016 17:21

Go for it.

MrsJayy · 23/01/2016 17:25

Do it I am often red or reddy brown I love it

DanyellasDonkey · 23/01/2016 17:30

Great idea - I always dyed mine a shade of red when I was younger. Now that mine is starting to go grey I get it coloured a mid brown as I think I'm a bit old to be red

IHeartKingThistle · 23/01/2016 20:34

I bet you're not too old!

My friend reminded me today that my coat is pink. I don't care. I can pull off red hair and a pink coat!

How do we feel about a fringe and glasses?

Have blue eyes and been dying my hair red for more than half my life. Go for it!! It's also great cos you can change shade of red to refresh quite easily. (Just went a shade more purple, made all the difference.)
Yes yes, have glasses and a fringe too, all good :) if you want to look like me..

Bellyrub1980 · 23/01/2016 20:54

I'm a natural redhead with hair a tad lighter than Emma Stone. (Wish I had her face/figure though!!) Anyhoo, I wear quite a lot of raspberry/wine shades of pink ranging from light to dark. You can definitely wear pink, it's the tone that matters.

The hardest thing I find is finding a neutral eyeshadow that suits me. It's all either too stone/grey or too yellow/gold.

Bellyrub1980 · 23/01/2016 20:55

P.S. I LOVE heavy blunt fringes. My fiancé HATES them, so I'm banned.

Kilmeny · 23/01/2016 22:00

I have a fringe and glasses, Thistle. The red is very bright and I love it. Bellyrub, your fiancé doesn't have to have a blunt fringe.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/01/2016 22:26

Ha! You all sound gorgeous, wish I could see pics of your red hair/fringes/glasses! Do you think a hairdresser has ever been presented with a MN thread?!

OP posts:
DanyellasDonkey · 23/01/2016 22:45

I have a fringe, admittedly not red, and glasses (sometimes). It's a good look to hide behind sometimes!

IHeartKingThistle · 25/01/2016 18:05

I have red hair! It's bouncy and lovely and I look more like Emma Stone than Velma from Scooby Doo - yay!

Thanks for giving me the confidence to go for it - might even go a bit brighter next time!
