People staring, how can I look less mumsy?

I felt very self conscious the other day on public transport. I don't like using the stroller with so many people around and stairs everywhere so I had my son in a baby carrier on my back and I was wearing a special black babywearing coat with a panel that gives room for him. I had dark jeans on, Chelsea boots, Breton top. Ponytail, very light makeup. I could definitely tell people were staring. Do you think it makes me look like a hippy earthmother (I might be one anyway...)? I don't know how to look less mumsy :( What do you think?

I saw a babywearing coat (front panel) recently and stared like crazy.
I thought about when DH was carrying DD1 in the Ergobaby in Moscow and was approached by drunk sailors. And how I used to fly long-haul with my baby on a sling - Rio, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Miami, Montreal... And how barely a year later I felt trapped with a double buggy that was too big for most elevators and heavy to lift. And how I eBayed the Ergobaby, my slings and the double buggy, and how distant all that feels now.

Link to coat above with picture, it's a Momawo and I chose it because it's one of the few not made with fleece and closer to £100 than the usual £150+
It has a shaggy lining and a zip at the back so you can add a panel that gives room to the baby. You use it with a baby carrier, it's not a carrier itself. Plenty of YouTube videos included on the brands'website
I'm glad it's not my look, I now will walk proudly imagining people think I'm quite clever indeed :)
