Where to get a replica antique ring made - London

I have managed to lose my beautiful Victorian engagement ring - a South Sea pearl surrounded by a halo of diamonds, in a fleur de lys setting. It belonged to my husband's great-grandmother and I had my wedding ring designed to fit alongside it.

I want to get a replica made, based on a photo. Is there anywhere in London that you would recommend for this? I know there are lots of jewellers where you can design a ring but I imagine lots of them would specialise in more contemporary styles.

Thank you!

Try Richard Ogden in the Burlington Arcade. If they can't do the work, I am sure they will be able to advise where best to go. What a shame, but don't be too hard on yourself.

Thanks very much gonegrey, I will check them out. Burlington Arcade is always nice to visit as well.

I felt awful but my husband doesn't seem too bothered by it. I think if I can get a good replacement I'll end up forgetting that it wasn't the original ring, or not minding at any rate.

They may well have a suitable replacement or could source one for you.

Berganza in Hatton Garden specialise in antique jewellery. I don't know whether they make rings from scratch, but they re-set a ring for me and did a great job.

Thanks Love2Dance, I will try them as well.

I would just get a new antique ring with the insurance rather than trying to copy it. It will cost a lot of money to get it remade for comparable quality, probably far more than the original ring was actually worth.

Bentley & Skinner - on Piccadilly at end of Burlington Arcade have great rings.

You're probably right, Twinklestein - I am expecting to have to pay more than the insurance money to get comparable quality. At least pearls are relatively cheap - if the centre stone was a diamond it would be much more expensive.

I think I still want a replica though, partly for sentimental reasons, partly in the (possibly vain) hope that my in-laws won't notice I've lost their family heirloom, and partly because my wedding ring was designed to curve round the engagement ring and wouldn't fit next to another ring unless it was the exact same shape and size...

Bentley and Skinner also make jewellery, so would be a good port of call since you'll be in the area anyway...

They look lovely, thanks - am going to be heading to Mayfair on Friday so will stop by then.
