Need dress for ball. Odd shape

That's me that's an odd shape. Can any of you suggest what I can wear to a ball? I'm early 50s, 5'8", size 14-16 top half (broad boulders and biggish boobs) and 12-14 bottom half. I never wear dresses as if they fit on top they hang off my bottom half and make me look square, and I'm usually very casual. And I NEVER show my rms. Bingo wings and crepey. Yuck. So sleeves or bolero type thing that won't add bulk up top. Would pay up to £300 for a miracle dress (long) that doesn't make me look like Dame Edna. Any ideas anyone?

Something not fitted at the bottom Would help with the fitting issues

Or something fitted all the way down that you get adjusted.

I wore a jumpsuit to the last ball we went to (a very elegant one!) in navy and even if I do say so myself, it looked lovely. I wore a little bolero over the top to go in.

I realise that this hasn't got sleeves, but thought the shape might work !

What's your waist and tummy like? Do you think you want something fitted around the waist or not?

ReggaeShark · 21/01/2016 13:34

Thanks for the suggestions. Good question Rogan. I do have a pretty flat tummy so fitted in that area would be OK and show off my best bit I suppose.

How does bias-cut work for you? This Ghost one is very elegant.

This is nice with a wrap, to hide your arms till everyones squiffy, As is rogans pick. I'm nearly your age & same size 16-12 top to bottom.
Draw attention to your good bits, emphasis on your strong upper vavavoom. People ignore your arms then.

I do like that Coast dress although I need more boob support than can be hidden by those straps. Even squiffyness would not induce me to inflict on other revellers the natural disaster that is my arms. Not sure about the slide slit. That would reveal my massive calves and cankles.

Gorgeous, simple black:

Slightly sparklier but v elegant navy. www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Adrianna+Papell+Floor+length+gown+with+sequin+bodice+and+jacket/226439041,default,pd.html

I am a similar outline and would look seriously at both of these.

ReggaeShark · 22/01/2016 20:22

Thanks for your suggestions. Not sure about black. I always go for black. I like the sequinned one but might be tricky to take in round the hips? What about this? I like the style but is the pattern ball-y enough?

That looks nice Reggae, and if you like it and feel good wearing it, it is suitable for a ball! Crossover bodices are falttering for big boobs

Flattering, not faltering!
