Perfume advice needed as I'm a numpty

Having smelled Tom Ford Black Orchid a few times, I decided finally to splurge my Christmas money and buy a bottle. Am not often in the shops as I live in the sticks, so it had taken me a while to get there. Was slightly rushed and got home to discover that I had accidentally picked up Tom Ford Noir - doh.
I won't get back to the shops for a few weeks to change it and am toying with just opening it, but at £53 it's a lot of money to spend and perhaps a silly risk. Any advice from people who've smelled either or both?

Oooh I think I would wait and try to take it back.

Orchid is bloody lovely. It's on my list for a full bottle come payday.

I haven't smelled the Noir though.

Yes, I've read very good reviews of PP on the Tom Fords.

Hijack slightly to say don't even consider splashing out £3 or whatever though on any Chanel-alikes or Givenchy.....
