My wonderful experience of 'how to look expensive"

I am normally a bit of a slob and I don't like to see what I have evolved into...

Today was my dad's funeral- my beloved dad who was so dapper and smart and always wore a fab, well cut shirt and silk tie. His favourite aftershave was Terre d'Hermes

Despite the fact it was my dad's funeral- do you know what? Part of me felt bloody great. I had a on a fab fit and flare coat I bought from House of Fraser (Kaliko) which fits me and looks great. Slim fitting black trousers, black knee length boots and a fitted shirt. I also wore one of me dad's silk ties Grin

I felt so tall and proud and confident and I know my dear dad would approve- he loved fashion

love you dad xxx; I'm DEF going to make an effort now

I am sure you are right and he would have been proud to see your looking smart and feeling good about yourself. Long may that feeling continue!

Ah well done! I bet the hard day you had to endure was a tiny bit easier because you felt confident. I bet your dad would have thought you looked smashing.

I bet he was proud of you.

But... you don't have to ditch your usual style. I'm sure he's just as proud of your usual style as you of his.

usual style has become sloth monster; ok for an attack of typhoid fever but other than that NO !!!!!! Smile

I wore a Philip Treacy hat from Harvey Nicks (sale) for my mum's funeral. I was an only child of whom she was mega proud and she liked to see me nicely turned out. It was almost like sharing a little joke with her.

Gatekeeper that sounds like an amazing outfit, and one he would have appreciated. I am sorry for your loss. I hope and trust you carry his legacy on, as much as you can.
My own dad is critically ill in ICU and I have picked out my funeral outfit - but nothing as fabulous as yours! I am in awe and wish you well.

Flowers So sorry for your loss OP. I rarely dress smartly and wore a fitted, aubergine Autograph dress for my dear dad's funeral, with, heaven forfend, heels! I know he would have been very pleased to see me like that. Wearing his tie was such a nice touch.

Thanks and sorry for your loss, Gatekeeper. So glad that the glamming-up pleased you and reflected an important aspect of your dad's life, too.

A couple of years ago, an MNer whose DH had died spoke of her wish to look the bees' knees at the funeral. I recommended fancy underwear (not as the main garment, and not in case she got lucky) :o Shock

Ah how lovely that you honoured your Dad like that. Just before he died, my Dad remarked that one of my dresses was pretty. I wore it to his funeral and I love to wear it now and remember him. So sorry for your loss xxx

Oh gatekeeper how lovely. I'd have dabbed his aftershave on too..my dad always smelled of Old Spice The merest whiff makes me tearful (he's been dead 22 years)

I completely understand. At my beloved DF's funeral I wanted to dress well enough that his friends could look at me and think 'that's 's daughter. He must have been proud'. It seemed so silly at the time so I'm grateful to hear a similar story. Flowers for you gatekeeper*

Love Hermes perfumes. My favourite is orange verte. I'll have to sniff out terre d'hermes.
