Such trials for everyone. Wine all round.

Don't think I'll be there on Saturday - a small offshoot of our choir is singing at a wedding, and being paid! Though if my voice carries on being croaky and weird, I don't think I'd be a great enhancement to the harmonies. Last night I sounded like a 13-year-old boy whose voice was breaking.

Ddad was in hospital again over the weekend. Mum thought he'd had a TIA (small stroke), but the doctors are saying it was potassium deficiency. Which seems less likely... He was very confused the whole time, not knowing where he was. I wonder what it's like in his head...

Cremo · 19/01/2016 14:39

Sorry, MI to hear you are also suffering. I feel quite faintly today, and my complexion is somewhat pistachio.Confused

Herbs, sorry too about dps. hope things improve for ddad over the next few days. Presumably if it's potassium deficiency, he will improve rather more quickly that after a TIA?
Feel for you.re filthy house friend; how can a cleaner clean off the place is so untidy. Ours used to refuse if the place had been invaded by dhs "stuff". He used to have to hide it in his shed , as if it was somehow shameful.Hmm

BeachysFlipFlops · 19/01/2016 15:53

Mrs S, I know one of your dad's did NCS last year? As ds will turn 15 in a couple of months, he would be eligible.... Do you recommend and has anyone else looked at it?

#sitting at work, planning summer holidays

BeachysFlipFlops · 19/01/2016 15:53

Not one of your dads.....that would be way too Jeremy Kyle Blush

magimedi · 19/01/2016 17:02

Am back from France & have eventually caught up with you all.

Auriga - Very sorry to hear the news re your sister. As others have said, take care of yourself as well.

Hatty DS & family live in Les Aravis, so Haute Savoie.

BTM What was the food at The Grand, Eastbourne like? It's very local to us (parked outside it this afternoon when I went for a walk) & we've always heard mixed reviews about the grub, so have never tried it.

Herbs Sorry to hear about your Dad, it's such a worry when parents start to get frailer.

I had a lovely visit to DS & co. Eight month old babies are just such a delight & snuggle fest. Didn't do much as DS v busy at work & the weather stopped us in our tracks somewhat - epic snow. I don't think I've ever seen so much snow! In the picture, the snow on top of the letter boxes fell in about 6 hours & there was even more by the time I left!

It was just so lovely to see the three of them so very happy, full of plans for the future & that we all have a really great relationship now. There is hope for all you Crepeys who are having tough times with your offspring. Ten years ago I could not have even begun to imagine that things would be as great as they are now.

Welcome back, magi, what a lovely post Smile

Can't commit to Saturday yet as I'm still in a losing battle with deadlines Sad. Had visits from stair lift companies again yesterday and today, will be flat-out busy tomorrow with different work, then visits on Thurs from GP (next chapter in analgesia saga) and OT - which I requested in April last year.

Have made a decision about the stair-lift and feel happy with it, so there is progress. And DD's mock results are brilliant Grin

Hope you're feeling better, MI and Crem.

Lalsy · 19/01/2016 17:41

Aw, magi, that's so lovely and cheering Grin.

motherinferior · 19/01/2016 17:57

Hurrah to the Aurigetta! And the cuddles with an eight month old Envy

I have dragged self through day. Just vvv tired. Is par for course at the moment. At least I'm back eating Grin. And am, literally, keeping my nose clean.

hattymattie · 19/01/2016 18:43

Magi - sounds like you had a lovely time and great to know there is hope for us all re offspring.

Auriga - a relief to have made a decision and congratulations to the Aurigetta. DD2's are next month.

bigTillyMint · 19/01/2016 19:16

How lovely Magi. And good news for us too - Les Aravis isn't far from where we go at all, so lots of lovely snow!
The food was nice - we had sandwiches at lunchtime - what I had was good, all served with a teeny cup of lovely posh mushroom soup and salad and crisps. Dinner was £40 for 3 courses - all good (if not ground-breaking!) plus amuse-bouche before and palate-cleanser sorbet after the sorbet. Nice traditional (but lots of choice of prepared fruit) choice of hot and cold buffet for breakfastSmile Service was very friendly but professional if a bit slow on bringing food/accoutrements out! Such a lovely calm, relaxing environment there.

hattymattie · 19/01/2016 19:40

We go to Valmorel which is next to where my PiL live.

addle · 19/01/2016 20:26

Auriga, good news about stairlift and DD; hope deadlines work out

Magi, wow to photo ... and cuddly babies. Saw photo of newborn relly of colleague today and was reminded how silk satiny their skin is

BTM - we all agreed the deepfried icecream could have been lovely if the icecream had been kept really frozen and the filo hadn't fallen apart ... ds is off to gf's this w/e so maybe they can experiment some more there ...
on a different note, what did you do/have done in the spa?

Looking for plain black knee high boots, flat but with substantial sole. anyone any suggestions? have failed to find usual clarks options; boden sale boots have annoying blue piping (could I dye it?) and TK Maxx out of boots now that it's Jan.

bigTillyMint · 19/01/2016 20:34

Yes, well done Auriga's DD!

Addle, I had a facialSmile Spa itself was nice and treatments were good. The sauna/steam room/Jacuzzi and pool were good, but the women's changing room was rather small - lucky we could go back up in our robes!

I would recommend Fly or DM's - I have knee-high's of both with substantial soles. They are soooooo comfySmile

BeachysFlipFlops · 19/01/2016 20:50

www.jonesbootmaker.com/s/ladies/boots/knee-high-boots

There are quite a few in Jones.... Tried to link on my phone. No preview so don't know if it works....

BeachysFlipFlops · 19/01/2016 21:08

I hope you've all read the 'womb detox' thread..... Tis very funny Grin

Cremo · 19/01/2016 23:42

Any of these Addle?
I know what you mean about thicker soles for comfort and insulation.Smile re flylondon boots, they rarely seem to reach actual knee length, although I know there are exceptions.i love my fly boots, but they aren't going to win any style awards. I love that handcrafted stitching thing though. Grin

Magi, what a lovely few days you have just described. I have seen the snow like that in the Alps before in 1999. Cars began to disappear in the space of an afternoon !!

addle · 20/01/2016 08:27

Hello all thought Ild posted but it isn't showing so thanks everyone fr boot suggestions. Fly pipa look great, will try. Am shortarse so short boots ok.

Btm did you ever say what happened with the hearing test?

Beachy, where is the womb detox thread?

Cressetmama and cv hv you tried the 4160tues perfumes - do you rate?

motherinferior · 20/01/2016 09:53

Right: time, I feel, to push forward SATURDAY. We have so far: MrsS, me, Molly – anyone else? (Monty can’t come – I texted her, she is beset with ballet etc on Sat but sends love to all). BD, as it would be ideal to find somewhere that’s easy for you to get to if you can, shall we relocate to the King’s X area? (And can someone else also be Firm and Determined with this, as it’s not my forte)?

Am writing a feature on dementia patients. Hmm. Most fascinating.

BeachysFlipFlops · 20/01/2016 10:19

Womb detox is in Chat bizarrely.....

Wish I could come, but we are firmly stuck here this weekend...

hattymattie · 20/01/2016 10:33

MI - any truth in that thing floating round the internet that champagne prevents dementia?Wink

-4 here this morning - finally got the thermals out. I must say, I prefer a decent crisp cold like this to continual grey and dampness. Mind you we are teaching in the church hall this afternoon so I will take my fingerless gloves which my secret Santa sent me as it is always freezing in there.

motherinferior · 20/01/2016 10:50

It's very pretty here too. Though in all honesty I haven't left the house in a couple of days Blush but am feeling considerably better today, so will venture out for the joys of parents' evening this afternoon. Hmm

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2016 12:19

Hatty, -5 here at 7 this morning, DH said!

Addle, it was good news. Apparently I am getting deafer but only the same as everyone else! Hearing loss v average for my age and both ears the same. Not bad enough to warrant a hearing aid but I should use self-help strategies like facing the speaker and talking in quiet places (background noise is the prob)Grin

Just had a morning of meetings which went well despite the very frosty (to say the least) atmosphere between the two parents at the second one.

Am drawing on all my personal strength and calm to cope with a fairly major scrape DD has got herself into. Won't explain on here, but please send me positive vibes!

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2016 12:22

I would love to come on Sat but I'm not sure I can escape as outlaws are coming despite the fact that we (DH, DD, DS and I) were all invited to a party in the early evening months ago, and I will deffo be going to that!

Lalsy · 20/01/2016 12:35

BTM, good luck!

I too would love to come on Saturday but will have to see whether there is any chance of a bit of family stuff.

motherinferior · 20/01/2016 13:23

Many vibes to you, BTM.

OK, as we appear to be a fairly Sarf Lunnon lot we could revert to here which is honestly easy to get to from anywhere else...
