However much you don't want to go & your conscience is making you go, you won't regret it when the end does come. I can't tell you how I so often didn't want to go when my mum was ill - I loathed it so very often.

Flowers to all of you with the ageing parent problems.

Lalsy · 04/02/2016 18:03

Auriga that is just appalling. I am so sorry.

And BTM, good call. And Maybe a visit may be more useful when she has moved to get her stuff sorted etc?

MI such a. Good idea to do a quick visit.

Hatty, we went to Iceland a few years ago. It was great. And very odd. Have you read about the showering rules?

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2016 18:16

Lalsy, that's what I was thinking. But I can't easily go up for a month as we go away next Saturday for a week and I have already had a lot of time off work. Luckily there is a friend near to DM who has offered to go in and get stuff for her, etc if necessary. I wish I was near enough to do a quick visit!

NUFC69 · 04/02/2016 18:30

Crepey hugs or manly pats on the shoulder to DQ, BTM, MI, BD and Auriga. BTM, I take it DM is nowhere near me?

Stropps, your DD must have absolute faith and trust in you to ring you under those circumstances. And well done to DS, too. A belated happy birthday.

MrsS, happy birthday to you as well.

Crem, enjoy your submarine trip: we did something similar in Egypt - the views were quite spectacular.

Rose, your SiL sounds mad - ignore, ignore, ignore.

I have been to the hairdressers to have my highlights done: whilst I was there someone said that the police had pulled a woman's body out of the Tyne - the assumption is that it is my friend. There is to be a memorial service for her on Sunday, not sure if that will go ahead now or what will happen; presumably after identification there will have to be a PM. So sad but at least there will be closure.

hattymattie · 04/02/2016 19:26

Oh NU - that is so sad but as you say, closure.

Lalsy - did you stay in Reykjavik and is there enough stuff to do for two weeks?

Blackduck · 04/02/2016 19:29

Auriga I'd have had the meltdown by now.

MI do what you need to.

BTM hope if all gets sorted quickly.

On phone to my aunt thus morning - really the only one who reduces me to tears so we had a good weep...

I'm not down this weekend unless anything changes, ddad knows I need to do family stuff too. It's hard being at a dupistance but she also kept telling me to go home - I think she hates us seeing her like this.

Hugs to all

Hope MrsS is rip roaringly drunk somewhere...

Collymollypuff · 04/02/2016 19:30

Hattie, we went to Iceland recently. In his usual madcap way, dh decided to drive right round the entire perimeter of Iceland in two weeks. Do not do that. There is loads to do, especially in and around Reykjavik and the northern capital whose name I forget.

Collymollypuff · 04/02/2016 19:33

Sympathy to everyone with ill mums. Sad And to you, NU. And a happy birthday to MrsS. Thanks

Lalsy · 04/02/2016 19:40

Hatty, we did stay in R but only for a couple of days. We had ten days and drove along the coast road as far as the iceberg lake. Would have gone on to Husavik if a bit more time/dc been a bit older - apparently the whale watching is much better there, I wouldn't stay in R too long, as it feels quite like other places. What I would really have liked to do is leave the car and get on one of the buses with massive wheels and go into the interior, to the place you can stay with spring and walks (sorry, all the names are impossible but these are in the books), but again the dc seemed a bit too young. It is an amazing place - I want to go back before Katla (?) blows its top!

NU, I am so sorry.

Lalsy · 04/02/2016 19:41

And MrsS - hope you are dancing on a table somewhere Wine.

Blackduck · 04/02/2016 20:16

NU - so sorry, missed that

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2016 20:22

Oh NUFlowers

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2016 20:51

Happy birthday, MrsS. Raise a glass to your crepey chums!

Oh, NU, so sad. Closure, I guess, but no less tragic.

BTM - wishing you strength. It seems to be progressing at a pace, all of a sudden! It seems that the right people are getting involved, so give them a few days before you reassess whether you need to get up there.

Meanwhile, I'm posting from the delightful surroundings of Epsom A&E. DD1 turned her ankle quite badly in gymnastics, and it has gone puffy and crooked. I don't think it's broken, but I'm hoping for a pair of crutches at least, as she can't put any weight on it.

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2016 20:58

Good thing about being a minor in A&E - we are whizzing through so far. Only been here 40 minutes, doctor seen, X-rays done....

Stropperella · 04/02/2016 21:03

Gah, BTM, things are changing with your dm at such a fast pace. Sad But you def shouldn't rush up there now and get landed with doing everything. Hope you get some concrete news about a care home soon.
NU, I saw the news about your friend. So sad. I'm so sorry.

Well, dd went to school today and came home chortling about some boy shamelessly doing a loud burp during a maths lesson. Eh, if she is so amused by flatulence, perhaps she should go to school more often to find more entertainment opportunities. Either that, or I should stop being as flatulent in the home environment. Perhaps that is what is preventing her from going to school - I am just too hilarious. Hmm

Crem, we need more photos.

MrsS, many happy returns and all that jazz. I hope you are having a splendid evening.

Collymollypuff · 04/02/2016 21:05

I'm sure you'll get crutches if dd needs them, CV, but just in case you don't, we have a spare pair here, imported from Switzerland in the summer. Not a recommended must-buy in Switzerland, no.

Stropperella · 04/02/2016 21:06

X-posts, CV. Hope you and dd will be home soon with crutches and not needing plastering.

Stropperella · 04/02/2016 21:14

Auriga, sorry to hear you are trapped in the 9th circle of telephone hell. How can it be so hard for the system to keep track of an OT? Don't the community ones have to have mobiles? If not, why not, I wonder..

On a random note, ds tells me there is some kind of online Kardashians game where you have to earn "money" to save up for surgery to increase the size of a Kardashian's but and the one with the biggest bum wins. So glad he and his friends are passing their time in such edifying pursuits.

Stropperella · 04/02/2016 21:16

"Kardashian's bum" - dunno why I feel the need to correct that, but still..

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2016 21:33

I was born in Epsom Hospital CV - not A and E as far as I know...!

Stropps, good to see you. Belated birthday wishes and continuing strength for dealing with dd.

Bloody hell - all these poor aged parents. Much sympathy to all dealing with the stress and sadness of it all.

Mrs S - hope you're having fun, but not TOO much Wink

Cremo · 04/02/2016 21:53

Not sure how late it is at home, but just wanted to say how sorry I am about Your Friend NU. Appallingly sad, really. But I guess you are right about closure.SadThanks

Yellow submarine was excellent - coral reef fascinating ( and thriving) and we counted at least 20 diff species of fish. Like being inside an aquarium! Had a smashing lunch afterwards to soak up the free cocktail ( at 10am!!) and have been in and out of the pool all day.
Have spoken to a couple from Boston ( Gary and Pammy) who can't understand why nothing is in English specifically for them one supposes. We think they imagined Bora Bora or something, but sadly for them it is uber French in every way. All the better for us. GrinGrin
Bonne Nuit mes amies.Smile

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2016 21:54

Well, we are plastered, crutched, and about to hop home. They aren't sure if there's a break but erring on the side of caution. Have to come back for fracture clinic on Monday. First child to break anything!!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2016 22:56

God CV, what a pain - literally.
You will definitely need one of these limb-o!... it was indispensable when ds2 broke his leg.

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2016 23:40

Thanks, GGG, what a good idea! In the meantime we might have to resort to a bin bag and gaffer tape.

By the way, I was thinking of you earlier (well, QQQDog). I walked past a cute little Bedlington dressed in a natty tartan jacket, and he stopped to say hello.

NUFC69 · 05/02/2016 07:43

Oh dear, CV, poor DD. As someone who has broken more bones than I can remember, I sincerely hope that X-rays today will show that it is just a sprain.

Thank you, everyone, for your sympathy re DFr.

I hope the authorities have managed to sort out DM, BTM.
