Stupid question about hair dye skin test

A. You are meant to use the mixture as soon as it is mixed according to the instructions but to do a skin test surely you have to mix it 48 hours before?

B. If you have used the same brand before but not that colour do you still need to skin test

A It has to be on your skin for 48 hours before you use it on your hair.

B I don't know but assume the answer is yes as different colours= different chemicals.

I've always felt 'A' meant wasting hair stuff, unless you can just mix a small amount. 48 hrs before, yes, think so.

B So long as you used the brand fairly recently (so less chance of them reformulating it) I would have thought you would be ok.

I've always wondered about a, but I realised last night, you could test the two liquids on your skin without mixing them, I think? Or just squeeze a little bit of each, mix in a pot and put that on your skin

Just mix a small amount of each together and put that on your skin rather than mixing the whole lot.

I could be wrong but I thought you were supposed to do a skin test every time, regardless of whether or not you've used that exact brand and colour before as it's possible to develop a sensitivity to it at any time.

You just take a dab of each solution for the patch test, you don't actually need to mix it.

I personally would do a patch year each time, regardless of whether I'd used the grand or that particular colour before.

Stick some on at 48hrs, and some at 24hrs - reactions are unlikely the first time of applying, if you only test at 48hrs, the second time is on your head!
My friend had a horrendous reaction, she can't be near spices, newspapers, black jeans etc etc etc and she has drilled in to me how important it is after her whole life has changed

It should tell you on the instructions. I think you dab it behind the ear.

Behind your ear on the soft bit or inside of your elbow is best

Just take a very small amount from each tube and mix it. It does have to be mixed as you could be ok with the separate ingredients but react to the chemical reaction thst creates the dye. And you really should test every time as allergic reactions can take time to build up. hollin is right, reactions are rare the very first time as your body has to create the anti bodies

You need to mix them. Use a small amount of each mixed and apply behind your ear.
Dye releases different chemicals when you mix them and it oxidises. Testing without mixing is pointless.

You do need to mix them, you can't test the two individually. And you are meant to do it every single time you dye - regardless of whether you've changed colour or brand or not. Also, they aren't conclusive, so you could still have a reaction during the actual dye, so make sure you don't ignore any signs of sensitivity if they appear once it's actually in your hair.
