Does anyone else hate pale/greige nails on themselves?

but like them on other people? Confused

I almost always wear dark nail polish, dark red or dark purple, sometimes green or blue.

I see pastel nails and taupe or greige nails on bloggers or friends, think they look lovely, and spend a small fortune buying them and then hate how they look on me and revert back to my vampy colours.

This is the latest, Tanya Burr Penguin Chick. Looked lovely online. Looks like blah on me.

The only exception to this rule is Zoya Brigitte (a gorgeous dusky mauvey pink) which looks good on me.

Grr.

Yep they never work on me either, just look a bit grubby!

BoboChic · 15/01/2016 12:21

I like them better in summer on tanned skin.

FighterPilotsThumbs · 15/01/2016 12:31

Tanned, y'say?

Might as well give up then, I'm Irish Grin.

Gonna take this off and stick to one of my faithful shades.

Yes! I also hate "minky corpse" nails. On me and anyone else, to be honest.

samesizetoes · 15/01/2016 12:42

Pastels are my summer colours too. I'm still wearing deep reds, blues and purples.

burnishedsilver · 15/01/2016 12:42

They look like a disease on my nails. I'm sticking with reds at the moment.

It must be the Irish colouring. Not much chance of a tan 'round here.

FighterPilotsThumbs · 15/01/2016 12:43

Grin at 'minky corpse'!!

I'm applying Mavala Black Cherry right now and all is right with the world again Grin.

Yep looks crap on me too (Irish as well). I really, really just want that lovely pale natural looking nail - I end up with corpse hands.

Shirkingfromhome · 15/01/2016 12:44

I'm really pale and as much as I love this colour it makes me look like I need resuscitating.

Bavmorda · 15/01/2016 12:48

I'm olive toned and a lot of people recommended Essie Chinchilly - didn't like it at all. However Essie Merino Cool looks nice, and has a purplish undertone. Maybe try that if you like purples OP?

I should have had a better gander and passed comment! I think your nails look nice, OP. Those darker shades are much nicer than the standard beigey/minky/dead shades.

Nabootique · 15/01/2016 12:54

I love VDM, but this post made me shudder www.viviannadoesmakeup.com/nail-colours-for-brides-graduates-neutral-lovers/

2016Candles · 15/01/2016 15:04

I have nude colours every now and then for a change, but mostly I like deep reds and pinks. Suits my skin tone better, and as my nails are daily short, it doesn't look too Bet Lynch/Liz McDonald (I don't think) Grin

2016Candles · 15/01/2016 15:04

*fairly short

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 15/01/2016 15:08

I mostly wear darker / deeper colours than that, & never anything beige, nude or grey. Closest I get is pale pink semi opaque, usually in summer. If I wear an opaque pink I usually top it off with a glitter.

FighterPilotsThumbs · 15/01/2016 15:14

Nabootique VDM seems like a lovely girl but her taste is just so bloody conservative.

I was aghast when I found out she was only 23 Shock. Your early 20's is when you have fun experimenting with different styles. She dresses like a power Librarian from the Mid West Confused. All that sensible charcoal from Jigsaw and Whistles. Oy.

I love the colour on your nails OP. It looks quite a dark colour though, which I always prefer. Bland colours are ok in the summer with a tan, but just look yuk on me in winter. I'm currently wearing one called 'old gold' or something like that, and it's really just too pale for this time of year.

AgathaF · 15/01/2016 15:39

I reckon the young woman on that blog lurks on the 'how to look expensive' thread.

Nabootique · 15/01/2016 15:47

I think she's 25/26 now, but yes, I wouldn't say I'd ever seen much colour experimentation beyond a bold lip. I usually like her eye makeup recommendations as my tastes are more conservative than when I was her age. I never read the clothes posts on the blog (or any fashion blogs, in fact. Perhaps I should!).

polyhymnia · 15/01/2016 15:48

I'm exactly the opposite way - only like nudes and greys on myself ( Essie Chinchilly one of my favourites), with the occasional blue and voccasional silver.
Hate all bright or dark reds, pinks and corals. TBH rarely like them on others either though have sometimes been known to admire a Rouge Noir. It would be boring if we all had the same tastes and colouring.

Smartieskid · 15/01/2016 18:01

Really hating this colour on me but it's dry now and I'm not re doing them

omri · 15/01/2016 18:09

Are you Mumsnetting in the bath smarties?? V envious! (Two tantrumming toddlers here right now and dp is out with work tonight... )

CreviceImp · 15/01/2016 18:09

Instant crypt chic here too. They seem to turn greyer on me too even though they look a nice mink toned pink in the bottle.

omri · 15/01/2016 18:12

I really like that colour nail polish op.

I agree the pale/nude colours only look good on tanned skin. So I save it for summer and the rest of the year wear mostly dark red or plum colours
