Has anyone regretted Botox?

Shadow1986 · 13/01/2016 20:04

Nearly 30, I have two young children and another on the way - I think the next child and potential sleepless nights are going to age me even more!! So might consider Botox in the next year or two. Around my eyes are the worst.

Just wondering has anyone ever regretted having this done? I know there's lots who are anti Botox but just interested to hear negative from those who have actually had it done. Thanks.

I wouldn't have it done again.

I have a very mobile face and it just doesn't look right being imobile above the eyes. I also have a huge forehead so there's a lot of imobility! Grin

I've had some awful Botox over the years.

I've had the bat eyebrows (with accompanying wrinkles over the arch).
I've had the heavy forehead which made me frown (see above comment on massive forehead).
Lost all the 'padding' around my outer eyes when I had it there. Very bad crows feet now.
Lopsided grin twice after having crows feet treated. Couldn't smile for a month after one treatment.

I think it very much depends on your facial architecture and the skill of your doctor. I have a big forehead, big lower face and small mid-face. It just doesn't look good on me as other muscles over compensate making me snarl instead of smile.

I stick to filler now.

Frostycake your post is really interesting. I'm 48 and have pretty good skin (apart from a bit of hyperpigmentation). I've been thinking about Botox for a while. Not so much to get rid of wrinkles as I'm not really lined (except for naso-labial lines), but to get a slight lifting effect above the eyebrows to subtly counter ever so slightly droopy eyelids. A Dermatologist I saw said I could get a very subtle effect this way. BUT, I do have a mobile, expressive face and worry about how it'll turn out. I also have naso-labial lines but I'm too chicken to get fillers and can't justify the cost at the moment. A colleague who is in her 50s but not actually particularly lined (or I didn't think so) had Botox and fillers done. Very subtle. She looks fantastic. Not done at all, just fresh. A good friend of mine (50) also had it done for number 11s and again, she looked great.

OP I met a woman who started in her late 20s and is now well into her 30s and still Botoxing away. She regretted it and said she should have waited (not sure why). I couldn't help noticing that she did have that staring, wide eyed look, but I guess that depends on the practitioner and personal taste. For me, the obvious, frozen expression is a no no and I notice that more on younger women who have had Botox. If it's wrinkles you're concerned about, it might be worth considering another way to refresh your (still young) skin before going down the Botox route so that if you reach a point when you know you've tried other things, you know that Botox is the most appropriate (for you) option?

I'm thinking micro-dermabrasion, acid or chemical peels. Personally I wouldn't do MD for reasons to do with my hyperpigmentation, but right peel can apparently really make a difference to skin texture.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

I'm 38 and have the beginnings of a vertical forehead line, I'm going to get this done.
Also surprised it can be used on the down turned mouth - definitely need that!
Can anyone reccommend a doc in East Kent ?

Frostycake · 19/01/2016 16:09

Love2dance if you want a lifting effect above the eyebrows then go for Botox above them (and in the outer corners) but also consider fillers in your temples - this makes a HUGE difference to women our age. I beleive that some doctors also inject a small amount of filler in the brow bone (outer) too for a subtle lift. The naso-labial lines will benefit from the lift you'd get by having filler in your cheeks & cheekbones too. You need the padding in your upper face as you age to stop the droop.

I found that after Botox, I just couldn't move my face as much as normal and it felt tight and uncomfortable. I was very self-conscious when speaking. In repose, I looked fantastic though! No lines at all. I have bitchy resting face normally and my 11's went completely.

It all seems to go wrong when you try to move your face sadly.

Lotsofponies · 19/01/2016 16:21

I have it on my forehead, glabella (no 11s) and crows feet. My guy is fantastic, he uses the lowest dose possible and I had to go back after the first week to be assessed. I can still move my face and look 'normal'. My crows feet and frown lines are filling out naturally now. The fellow I use is a registered nurse. I pay £300 to have all 3 areas done, I think he charges £199 for a single area.

It takes up to 3 days to take effect and it might feel a bit odd as you muscle patterns change. An unforeseen benefit for me is I no longer get tension headaches from frowning.

Love Love Love it.

Buttwing · 19/01/2016 17:12

Sonata would you travel to wilmslow? I can highly recommend Dr Robin Stones at courthouse clinic he's a dermatologist as does cosmetics part time. I've had a few different people do it in the past but he is outstanding.
For two areas its around £250 and lasts around 3/4 months.
I've had it done much cheaper but I've not had such good results.

anonymousnosides · 19/01/2016 17:18

Who s the best doctor in London, England for ethnic skin (botox)?

MsBojangles · 19/01/2016 17:31

I saw Robin Stones years ago, he was Transform in Bowdon for a while, his botox was fine but he kept pushing for me to have a little filler in the outline of my lips - I was about 32 at the time with perfectly fine, already quite naturally pouty lips.

Kind of put me off him to be honest, although the upselling might well have been part of the Transform clinic culture.

Buttwing · 19/01/2016 17:49

Wow Mrs bojangles that really surprises me, my friend went to see him to get fillers he told her to go away and put half a stone on! Maybe as you say it was a transform thing. He certainly persuaded me out of having too much Botox around my eyes.

Buttwing · 19/01/2016 17:50

Sorry meant to add, that would totally put me off someone too!

Queenoftheblues · 19/01/2016 17:57

my botox lady is rachel, at hilton clinic, caversham, berks. cost 175 quid per area. she alsi does fillers and injects her own lips which look very natural. no hard sell and she wont over fill ur face.

Upthenoonoo · 19/01/2016 18:00

I've had my crows feet done twice now as I had very deep wrinkles around my eyes. I have been very pleased with the results and will continue with it. I'm 38

MsBojangles · 19/01/2016 18:24

That's interesting Buttwing, it was about 10 years ago now and at a different clinic, with what looks like a completely different ethos.

I might be tempted to reconsider him if I ever decide to go down the botox route again, as long as he leaves my lips A-Lone!!! Grin

Buttwing · 19/01/2016 20:13

I'm wondering if maybe attitudes towards the whole fillers/Botox thing have changed. More and more people are wanting to look natural and I think on the whole doctors are using a lighter approach. You still see some real horrors though!! Especially in the areas that surround the transform you mentioned!! (Also where I liveWink)

Buttwing · 19/01/2016 20:13

And I'm very sorry I called you Mrs beforeBlush

MsBojangles · 19/01/2016 22:58

It's ok Butt, I answer to anything Wink.

My God, state of Kristina Rihanoff on CBB, her face has so much botox in it it's like concrete, she can barely even smile! Definitely an example of how not to do it.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 19/01/2016 23:59

I don't understand anyone having it done in their 20s or 30s. There are loads of people my age (36) who are starting to have it done and it's just so obvious. My 67 yo aunt has had it done for years now and everyone I know who's had it done look just like her when they smile.

Why would you want to look like an older lady trying to be young rather than just be young while you can?

Destinysdaughter · 20/01/2016 00:48

I'm 51 now and sooo tempted to try it! Please any recommendations for the West Midlands area? ( prepared to travel if they're good!)

foxybotoxy · 20/01/2016 01:55

UntilTheCows, I have NCd especially to answer your post: "I don't understand anyone having it done in their 20s or 30s. Why would you want to look like an older lady trying to be young rather than just be young while you can?"

I shall tell you why. I haven't had Botox yet but fully intend to before the year is out. I am nearly 33 and remember being 14 and buying a L'Oreal anti-wrinkle cream with my pocket money. Even at that age, I had started to get a single frown line/crease right in between my eyes. I remember being really self conscious about it because of course no one else had one at that age.

I remember lying in bed rubbing the cream on and trying to literally stretch my skin and make it flat there. I feel quite sorry for my 14 year old self now.

As I've grown up, the line has become ever more pronounced. My 'resting' face is perfectly pleasant, oh apart from that deep crease between my eyes that makes me look like I'm frowning even when I'm just watching TV.

The line ages me, and as a PP says, changes the character of my face. I look angry or bemused All. The. Time. when I am actually quite a cheerful person!

Even worse, my make up settles in it sometimes, so the lovely line is filled in by foundation and powder and looks smashing (not!).

So that is why people have it done in their 20s and 30s, because we have not all been blessed with typically 'good skin'. Put simply, I don't want to spend the rest of my life deleting photos.

On that note, if anyone can recommend someone in Birmingham city centre or north Birmingham I would be very interested! Wink

It's simply the best thing ever. You look less tired. Make up goes on better. I love it.

InspectorMontalbano · 20/01/2016 09:33

So I contacted a local clinic and they said they don't do it for downturned mouth - only fillers.
Is it only some places that do that then?
ever hopeful of losing resting bitch face

Frostycake · 20/01/2016 10:35

My last (unsuccessful) Botox around my eyes was with Dr Robin Stones at Courthouse so be careful. He is without doubt one of the best cosmetic doctors out there but it's down to your own facial architecture as to how the treatment turns out. It just doesn't sit well on some people. The treatment I had was VERY conservative (I specified this before treatment) but it still looked awful on me.

My forehead was better and all lines were erased (including vertical 11s and horizontal lines but then my forehead looked very 'heavy' despite having Botox placement to life the forehead.

For those looking for a doctor in Birmingham, I can recommend The Apsaras Clinic in Coventry.
