HELP - acrylic nails have killed my nails!

They were so pretty all red and long and glittery. I loved them for 3 weeks, wanted them off for 2 days but was not prepared for them to be filed off and my nails to be all weak and dead looking now, eeek!

Can someone recommend me a product please?

I'm a nail tech, they should not have been filed off! Avoid that salon definitely in future. I'd recommend cuticle oil or even olive oil etc.. Or a really thick handcream use it often and keep your nails filed short for now

That's interesting Noidea, thanks for replying. I was a little surprised at the filing (with an electric thingy and then soaked and then another layer off, was a bit brutal TBH). I was an acrylic virgin so clueless. Was a cheap and cheerful nail bar and I'd really liked them but they really are a mess now. I've been using hand cream.

How should they be removed out of interest?

They should be thinned out then soaked in acetone. I soak a cotton will ball in acetone and wrap with foil for my clients rather than soak in a bowl, it's less drying on the skin. I then wait until the product has broken down and can be rubbed off the nail then I tidy up cuticles and then oil to rehydrate.

There is a relatively new product called IBX which is a nail strengthening treatment. It is a salon treatment but is truly brilliant for repairing damaged nails.
