Foundation for oily skin - stick with Lancome or switch?

I'm currently using Lancome teint idole ultra 24H and it's almost at the bottom of the bottle. This suits my oily skin well but I'm wondering about switching for a change. How does Estee Lauder Double Wear compare? Or is there anything good from Bobbi Brown / Laura Mercier with decent coverage and staying power? I've got a strange skin tone and foundations are often either too yellow or too pink for me.

I've also seen the No7 matte foundation gets really good reviews - at half the price of the Lancome it would be amazing if this works for me. Has anyone tried it?

I went back to Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra after switching to EL. I didn't get on with ELDW, I found it went a bit patchy even with primer. I recently tried a sample of Chanel Les Beiges (from Glamour magazine, available only in a v pale shade, which was ok for me). I really liked it and am considering purchasing.

I've tried Bobbi Brown in various formulations and didn't like any of them. I also have weird skin! I have v oily skin and a lot of foundation oxidises on me so the shade changes through the day. I have ended up going a shade lighter in Lancome (from 03 to 02) and it's pretty near perfect match now.

Good to know you've tried other foundations and still like Lancome! I just feel like I'm missing out, you know? I might try to see if I can get a sample of the boots one and stick with good old Lancome if it's no good

I have oily skin and Bobbi Brown stick foundation works well really well on me. I go back to it time and time again. Good coverage and doesnt oxidise on me. Easy for on the go touch ups and travelling.

I currently using Chanel perfection lumiere velvet foundation. Really nice matte finish and keeps my oily t zone at bay. Think it comes in 6 shades.

I have oily skin too and switched from estee lauder to YSL fusion ink and its much better, smooth even light weight coverage.

Place marking for tips too. I've been happy with the lancome one but it seems to be oxidising more lately. I could switch to a lighter shade but interested to know what else is out there. It's such a tricky thing to get right.

I like the Clinique one for combination skin (sorry can't remember it's name), but nothing I have found really lasts all day on my oily skin, no matter how carefully I prep, apply then powder

I recommend YSL Fusion Ink too. I use a beauty blender with it. If you have any flaky skin it does catch on it but great for the t zone.

So I was swayed by the price of the no7 foundation! Colour is a really good match (they used the computer thingy) and their makeup was buy one get one half price. Will report back when I've given it a proper go

I'm really pleased with the no7 foundation after wearing it for 2 days. It's much easier to apply than the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra, and less than half the price! Coverage isn't as good but I think it looks more natural. Doesn't oxidise at all which is great. It doesn't keep me totally shine free but it's not bad at all. I've never found a foundation that could keep me shine free all day anyway.

Can I ask what type of skin you have? I'm tempted by the no7 now but don't know if it'll be ok for oily combo skin. Good to know it doesn't oxidise, I hate it when that happens as I'm very pale.

Oh sorry. You did say in your op that you have oily skin. I'm going to try it out then. I'd love to find a slightly cheaper one, like you say.

Wagglebees, the sales assistant gave me a very generous sample in a little pot but I went back a couple of hours later to buy it anyway. Definitely worth a try if you can get a sample! I think it's enough for about a week. I was matched to warm ivory and there are a few shades lighter than that.

I sample would be very good. I struggle to get a pale shade that's cool enough. Thank you, I'll know to ask for one now.

I have oily skin too and used nothing but Lancome for about 5 years. The Teint Idole would look a bit cakey after a full day's wear though, so I tried a bunch of other ones:

Rimmel stay matte: goes on easily, stops shine pretty effectively but not great staying power. Cheap though.

EL DW: hard to get a good shade match (had lots of little sample pots) but better coverage than Lancome and better staying power. Hard to put on though as it sets quickly so found a brush and good primer was essential. Also v hard to remove completely.

EL DW light: not as good coverage, not as good staying power. Not hugely impressed.

Revlon colour stay - there are two types for oily and dry skin - good coverage, easy to apply, looks glowy without looking oily and lasts well. Use this all the time now.

Sorry, I've written you an epic on foundation! Good foundation for oily skin is hard to find though.

I swear by ELDW, always trying new foundations but nothing compares. If you are having difficulty removing it, try micellar water. Wipes won't remove it completely.

I did used to rate Chanel mat lumiere far higher than EL but it has been discontinued in the UK.

Watching with interest. I have very oily skin and for the last few years have worn Benefit "Hello Flawless" powder, but I still manage to shine through!

Do most folk tend to wear liquid foundation or powder?

I used to work for Benefit and found that none of their foundations helped with my oily skin.

I used to wear powder when I was a teen and had perfect skin then I got terrible acne in my 20s so have always worn a liquid to provide the coverage that I need.

That's interesting, thanks. I've got PCOS and one of the symptoms is really bad skin - I'm almost 35 and at times my skin resembles that of a 14 year old! I've got the breakouts mostly under control but the oil production is still a problem.

I use cliniques 3 step system for oily skin which really helps me. When I had really bad acne I used the anti blemish range which was good.

A friend with oily skin swears by an oil by Claris, sounds bizarre putting extra oil on your face but she says he skin has never been better. I must get around to trying it.

I used to use Clinique but didn't get on with it. I now use La Roche Possay Effaclar range - buying it in bulk when it's on offer in Boots!

I did have a sample of Caudalie's "overnight detox oil" which actually made my skin feel pretty good. It's a dry oil with lots of essential oils in it.

The problem with having skin issues related to PCOS is that it is all hormone based, no amount of extensive skin regimes will ever fix the problem. I can get it kind of under control with diet but it will never go away completely.
