I want to start making a bit more of myself, but can't afford to buy really expensive products. Can anyone recommend any facial products creams/lotions and makeup under £10

Do not underestimate the power of Nivea cream. Blue pot for night, white pot for day. £1 each from Superdrug.

Sleek Eyeshadow palettes are very nice, Boots have 2 for £10 at the moment.

I can't use any of the Lidl or Aldi creams as I have big reactions to them. I've not got particularly sensitive skin either - but I know they are well liked on MN. They are quite highly fragranced.

Tinted moisturizer is a great basic product - I like the Boots one which is about £12 but I only buy it on offer so it costs less.

Also love the M&S Pure range of skincare - esp the day & night creams. I always buy on 3 for 2 offers which are fairly regular.

It includes stuff up to £20 but there are plenty of good products on there under £10.

I've seen Miceller water around and was wondering if it's any good, so maybe need to give that ago.

Destiny, I do have blackheads on my nose but wouldn't say it's greasy. The rest of my skin is normal.

Caroline Hirons advice on cleansing routines and the order you should use products in is very good. Applying it to cheaper products (I ignore her product recommendations) gives good results.

They aren't blackheads on your nose if the rest of your skin is normal, they are sebaceous filaments - basically filaments which you can't get rid of and the tops oxidize and turn black.

You might like Nip +Fab Dragons Blood better as it's salicylic acid which is fat soluble and will dissolve the black tops off. Glycolic Fix is better for dry skin.

Moisturiser is generally not worth spending £££ on. Nivea is fine if your arent too oily. In the day you need an SPF which will be better for anti-ageing than anything else you do for your skin.

The superdrug naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser is great. Am using the nspa(from asda) hot cloth polish too and that seems to be similar. All the MUA and Make up revolution makeup I've tried seems to be really good quality and ridiculously cheap. Get yourself down to superdrug and see what takes your fancy!

I bought some Neals Yard Rose Moisturiser from M&S but it's too lightweight for winter so I bought a Superdrug serum and (I think) brightening balm

The Aldi ones made my eyes water so I can only use from the chin downwards.

I didn't like the Superdrug radiance range, so avoided their Vit E range, but got some last week and it's lovely. Richer and creamier than the Radiance. Also rate the Pure serum which is as good as ££££s serum IMO.

I also find Boots No7 to be pretty good and there are often money off offers if you spend over £5 in Boots, which is easy to do!

Wolpertinger - thanks for that, you learn something every day - for years I always thought I still had blackheads.

I've made a list of everyone's recommendations and am checking things out online, so your replies are really helpful. I can't afford to go out and get everything at once, but at least I can aim for some new things and keep up the new routine.

Serum, and night/treatment creams are the best place to spend your cash. I use a moisturiser that's under £5 (neutrogena) but a retinol cream that's £20.

Acid toner also works miracles but be careful about strengths if you've never used it before and have ever had rosacea.

I also buy DH's stupidly pricey, nothing else will do vitamin tablets from Boots as well as Spatone for my low iron levels using double points vouchers they send. My Boots points bought the retinol cream!

Money is tight for us, but last year I decided to look after myself a bit more as I didn't feel on top form. I started eating more fruit and trying to drink more water. I bought myself some Clearasil facial scrub which I use 1-3 times a week and I have an Olay cleansing lotion, I then wipe skin over with damp cotton wool before applying Olay moisturizer. I know this is very simple and cheap, but I think it's helped my skin. It does look clearer and healthier.

I don't use much makeup, but recently had to buy a new eye liner. I bought a Max Factor one which I think was around £6 and certainly does the job!

I'm 48 and currently using Nivea Q10. Shop around and you can get it in supermarkets on offer for approx. £5 or places like Savers/Wilko. My favourite is Nivea Daily Essentials rich moisturizing cream which again if you shop around you can get for £2 - it's leaves my skin glowing (without being greasy) and smells nice.
