Liz Earle bought the lot, moisturiser disagreeing...

Having had no skincare system for all of 2015 I had been using the dregs of whatever I could find laying around and so bit the bullet and went for an entire Liz Earle system just before Christmas (as part of the new improved self-caring me project). The nice woman tried the products on me at the counter and they seemed really nice...

And they are, except the moisturiser which feels uncomfortable and I think has caused a couple of spots - I guess I should have tried samples first before committing. I can't afford such expensive mistakes, but I do need a moisturiser and I think there is an unscented version that is otherwise the same, so I will ask for a sample of that I suppose.

Please other people comfort me with tales of extravagant skincare-gone-wrong purchases, am I alone in being so naive!!?

If you have the receipt, take the moisturiser back and say that is is disagreeing with your skin. You should have no problems exchanging or getting a refund.

I just spoke to a lovely lady who has told me to send it back and they will credit my account - since I don't have the receipt.

Unfortunately all the moisturisers in the skin repair range have the same scent. However the Superskin (£24 more expensive) moisturiser does come unscented... at that price I want to be asked for i.d. in bars! Has anyone used it?

Or if I opt for a different moisturiser altogether, what would people recommend for skin that tends to be dehydrated and doesn't like strong scents please?

£24 is for the tiny pot so don't bother as not great value! I can't use any of the Liz Earle stuff :(

It doesn't suit me either, I stick to M&S Pure range now. I've given up on all expensive brands.

I have dry and dehydrated skin. I've found the best things that work for me are from the Alpha H range, Clarins Blue Orchid oil and Origins Drink Up mask - this has a very citrussy smell however.

Budget wise, there's a Nivea daily moisturiser that I just love for about 4 quid.

Call Liz Earle company and ask for a super skin sample. I loved it when I used it.

I have dry skin and react to just about everything, and at night I use Pixi cleansing balm, Neal's Yard Frankincense Intense eye cream (you only need the tiniest of tiny amounts) and Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Recovery Cream. In the day time I use Mizon Snail Repair Cream. If the sun ever returns, I'm going to try the Aveeno Ultra Calming day cream as it has sun protection, either as well as or instead of the Snail Cream.

I have trialled loads of stuff recently because what I used to use started to irritate, and this seems to keep my skin fairly happy. The eye cream is a particular revelation, my eyes are super sensitive and since I've been using this they are so much less reactive, less puffy and no dry patches. I use a little spatula thing for the eye cream and the snail cream because they come in jars (I prefer a pump dispenser) and I don't want to introduce bacteria.

I'm still looking around for an exfoliating (glycolic acid) toner. I've tried the Pixi one, but it's scented and makes me blotchy.

NewYear, the alpha-h liquid gold glycolic stuff is fine for me, don't know if its possible to sample somewhere.

I do wonder whether expensive potions are that much more effective than budget...

Cult Beauty have a trial sized liquid gold, I've put it on my wish list for the next time I need to order something from them.

Just swap it for another cleanse and polish if you like that.

Cleanse & Polish gave me really bad spots - I think it's the cocoa butter. I think Liz Earle is massively overrated tbh, I can find substitutes for every product that is either better and (for the most part) cheaper.

I didn't get on with any Liz Earle products, made my skin really congested.
