Sounds delightfully bonkers. I love the strange things the young ladies get up to.

peachybex · 21/01/2016 10:29

Just a quick note to say to whoever posted about using the Percy and Reed "non-oil, volumising oil" on hair - Thank you!. I thought I would give it a whirl (I have a chin length, graduated, volumatic blonde bob) and what great stuff.

I second the recommendation - purchased from feelunique...I now have unopened bottles of morrocanoil to give away....!.

GarlicBake · 21/01/2016 10:37

just finding one's own style, and particular looks people like

And hurrah for that :)

I apologise for the 'grim' Jigsaw dresses, Twinkle, but I was seeking "expensive" and I think they did convey quality. Maidrin obviously found something that's more her personal style; good for her!

The Uniqlo Ines range could have been made for this thread - or the first one, anyhow. It says "I'm so posh, I can hardly be bothered". I was going to say it yells/screams, but naturally it doesn't - it murmurs in a low but confident tone Wink

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 10:49

Meh, I'm 31 - not ready to dress like Carole Middleton just yet Wink

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 10:55

But ok, how about this one then. The point I'm making is that pleather can look great styled properly.

Now obviously we all have different interpretations of 'styled properly' but a blanket denigration of pleather is daft.

Higge · 21/01/2016 10:55

I'm 44 and I'm not ready to go down the Carol Middleton route either - actually Catherine is a bit too safe for me as well.
I think wearing the fake handbags linked below can never look expensive - how could they?

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 10:56

I'm not sure I see an advantage of pleather over leather (other than cost, obviously)?

peachybex · 21/01/2016 11:02

Think first pic looked ummm well - chavvy to me tbh. Coat, trainers - whole looks didn't exude either expensive or well put together.

Second pic does look nicer...girl in pic may be able to pull off looking nice in a bin bag though....

GarlicBake · 21/01/2016 11:08

I'm not sure I see an advantage of pleather over leather - Washability. Unless you've got nearly a grand to spend on washable, stretch leather.

I've seen so many 'specialist dry clean only' leather leggings. These are leggings. I'm disgusting, and even I wash leggings after two wears!

How much is a specialist leather clean? £30 or more? If you want leather leggings and won't wear fake, you're better off saving all those thirty quids until you can afford oil-tanned leather ones.

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 11:14

You can wash leather in the machine.

CreviceImp · 21/01/2016 11:17

The advantage of pleather over leather is that you can chuck them in the machine and they are more comfortable to wear. Also not an issue to replace if you catch them etc.

I wear my pleather skinnies with my cashmere charcoal off duty jumper, small diamond studs and a simple silver bracelet and they look cllllaaaaaarsy I tells ya... 😄

Favouritethings · 21/01/2016 11:27

peachey if you're giving away Morrison oil, feel free to chuck some my way, I love the stuff! Grin

Favouritethings · 21/01/2016 11:28

Morrocon.. Definitely not Morrison oil!!

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 11:43

I always wear leather with cashmere. What else is there? Wink

peachybex · 21/01/2016 11:45

Favourite - Morrison oil! Grin Grin.

Lol - brilliant!.

Feel I should offer to my Mum first - if she doesn't want it you are welcome to it!. The Percy and Reed stuff is epic though if ever you fancy a change.

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 11:45

I also use the Moroccan hair oil, so my interest is piqued! I used the Percy & Reed hair restorer which smelled delightful so I will certainly try the oil. I really love feelunique - good website.

Morning All, Thanks to the mention of the Ines new season stock at Unliquo (sp.) I have purchased a beige v-neck jumper (sale so result!!) and a black spotty blouse. Big move forward for me was culling the wardrobe and creating 12 outfits that work and listing the gaps that need filled both items will work well- Nothing is particularly exciting or high fashion, but smart/casual in black, white, beige, and grey. Colour will be added in the form of scarves, I have lots. Also I have a discovered a tailor who after altering some trousers is now my favourite man in the world ever!!! Mr Fassbender will have to settle with the number 2 spot Grin

All in all the last week has been weirdly liberating, I have felt quite put together every day, and have had a comment/compliment from my colleague who has the whole European chic thing nailed.

Quick question - Denim shirts? Yay or Nay, Due to my obsessive people watching, I noted one worn with black skinnies, and a beige jumper yesterday it looked fab - hence the beige jumper purchase today - however I haven't worn one for about 25 years, and woudn't know where to start looking for one. xoxo

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 11:51

I have a denim shirt and I wear it with my black leather miniskirt (tucked in)/tights, chelsea boots and a chunky necklace. I do love my denim shirt. That said I don't feel adventurous enough to wear double denim so I wind up wearing it only with leather.

Kr1stina · 21/01/2016 11:54

Don't uniqlo sell denim shirts ?

if you search on Pinterest for denim shirt + outfit you will get lots of ideas

plumstone · 21/01/2016 12:00

Of the Denim shirt - will be a definite addition to the wardrobe - thank you Pin interest, Apple and Kr1stina!

COuldn't see any on Uniqlo - however to be fair, I am at work, and not actually meant to be planning my wardrobe!!! Will investigate at lunch!

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 12:01

Well my leather leggings are Helmut Lang and no WAY am I putting them in the washing machine. I'm out £700+ if that goes awry.

Agree with you on the bags Higge - even if they're not counterfeit, they're too 'influenced' by the leading designers. If I couldn't afford the real thing, I'd rather have a simple leather tote

Kr1stina · 21/01/2016 12:16

www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/164505?gclid=CPXHpsDwusoCFRW3GwodqlYFWw

Don't you hate it when work gets in the way of the important things in life ?

BeaufortBelle · 21/01/2016 12:22

I don't know. DD has pleather leggings rather like Madrina's as do some of her friends and the look isn't about the pleather, it's about what goes with it. The swishy hair and confident bearing of expensively educated girls as much as how they put it together. A completely different look to the girls in the same leggings with a bit of home colour in their hair.

BoffinMum · 21/01/2016 13:42

Higge, they are obviously not going to be as carefully made as the real version but the one I have is very acceptable and classy and will serve my purposes very well for a decade, I imagine.

I wouldn't dream of spending thousands on a handbag anyway as I think that's immoral in so many ways.

BeaufortBelle · 21/01/2016 13:57

Fits beautifully with the title of the thread too Boffinmum. How to LOOK expensive, not how to be expensive. A £2000+ bag doesn't necessarily make an overall look, look expensive.
