Skiing trip clothes (minus the skiing)

I will be working for a week on a skiing holiday. I won't be skiing though, just playing about in the snow and sledding etc with the kids.

I haven't spent a week like this before though so will need to buy some things! Ideally cheapish as its just for the week and I can't see myself going back often. But I'm not really sure what or how much I need to buy. What sort of trousers? Thermal underwear and some sort of jacket coat type thing?

Please help!

Clothes - thermal top with fleece over it, and leggings. I wear for two days, so three of each. Fabulous thermal tops in Uniqlo which you will wear a lot, and primark have fab fleece lined leggings for £4 which would be perfect.

Outside layers- waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers. Salopettes are ideal but you could wear jogging bottoms with a waterproof trouser over them. Go to Decathlon, cheap as chips for this stuff.

Also lots of thick warm knee length socks are a must. Plus a decent pair of proper skiing gloves (don't skimp on those). Hat and scarf as normal. Some proper waterproof winter boots (could be normal hiking type boots if you have them). Normal sunglasses. Little rucksack (especially if you are with kids).

For evening just jeans and lightweight jumper and slippers for the chalet (no-one dresses up in ski-resorts).

For cheap skiing/ snow clothes, I would try Decathlon or eBay. The latter tends to be good because some people get bored of their skiing clothes after one out two seasons, which means they have only been warn about 12 days in total

Ah thanks very much everyone, exactly what I was after. I'm impressed by how much cheaper these are than I was planning for. Time to make up my shopping list!

don't make my first mistake of taking any normal shoes/boots; useless in a slushy/icy/wet/snowy resort. Walking boots will do although nothing grips on ice so hope there is snow.

weapons-grade suncream at all times unless it is actually dark.

try charity shops for gear or borrow a ski suit from someone. (I still have mine although my skiing is over, it has been used a couple of times in the UK on snowy days)
