Hello, I've had the same swimming costume for about eight years, it was from Primark and had a nice fifties style pattern and halter neck design, held me in quite well, but have just realised how stretched and saggy in now is, am too embarrassed to swim in it again.. Am a size 18 and would love something reasonably flattering, I do like a halter style, have also admired long tankini styles with boardie shorts but can only see really expensive options from the likes of Boden.. Anybody have something to recommend? Or seen any in sales? Thanks for reading!

I only ever buy directly from Speedo - not sure if they have anything you like but they are very long-lasting and well made. DD swims 3 or 4 times a week and always outgrows them before they look remotely worn.

Had forgotten about speedo! Good suggestion thanks, will have a good hunt through their sale tonight when I have a bit of time. Thank you!

Toast! They do a 50s style polka dot halter neck one, which has the ability to transform even a size 16 lump like me, into a Marilyn Monroe-esque siren. Pricey though though mine was picked up for a fiver Quite often found on eBay, new, from other people who have managed to pick them up for a fiver.

Matalan?

I have this: www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=21244464&langId=-1

Boring but does the job. I am size 20 with H cup boobs.

anything here

I bought a gorgeous two-piece from Evans. I don't usually like any of their stuff but this is lovely. Did have to buy a few sizes too big though.

Figleaves have some gorgeous ones in the sale.

I've got this one and adore it. Had loads of compliments.

They often do discount codes so that would bring the price down. Best money I've spent in a long time though.

Oldraver · 09/01/2016 19:25

Pour Moi have lovely stuff and is bra sized.

The website is a bit rubbish though

bimandbam · 09/01/2016 19:35

Have a look on brastop.com

They usually have some nice tankinis. If not HofF or debenhams is my place to shop for swimwear. I always think you need to get bra sized swimwear if you are curvy. Supports boobage and you can get a better shape. I like panache tankinis.

I second the BHS one MrsAvery has linked to. I have that one and it's fab, it holds my size 18 gut stomach in better than my big pants. The pleating on the front hides lumps and bumps too.

KP86 · 09/01/2016 22:23

Swimsuitsforall.com

American company but good value, fast postage and lots of styles, inc boardies if you want them.

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 09/01/2016 22:25

I got a lovely Biba one last year, draped over the stomach area and decent support. And not black.

Thank you so much everybody for the replies, I couldn't use mumsnet for a few days on my phone, just wasn't working, but have now had a look at all suggestions, my favourite is the For Luna, really lovely and just my style but sadly too pricey for me just now... Also the Toast one sounds fab but there are only used ones on eBay just now, and though I do a lot of charity shopping I don't really like the thought of a used costume.. So a good scour on fig leaves, may order a few and the BHS one that does look flattering.
Much appreciated everybody!

The best and most flattering one I've ever had is a Speedo Sculpture Watergem. Brilliant. Shapes you, holds you in and doesn't disintegrate in chlorine. It's always on offer somewhere. It's this one but stocked on loads of other sites. I've bought two!

Oohh that speedo looks good! Does it fit larger or smaller Starspotter? Would need to decide between 16-18 or 18-20?

It's such a good cossie. I'd say it's true to size, but i would go the bigger end as it's quite supportive so you don't want it too tight. Holds its shape well. My friend's an 18 and she loves hers.
