hair colour advice please

I've had highlights for years, I have 2 colours at a time, bleach and the next lightest. However my natural colour seems to be getting darker as I get older and my roots are so noticeable to me. I'm thinking of going a bit darker, so if I said to my hairdresser that I don't want any bleach and I want a couple of darker but still blonde tones would that work? Would she be able to put those highlights into my hair without having to do anything else like put red in it first or anything? Thanks

I think you could try out ash blonde highlights with an ash brown base colour maybe. It depends on your skin colour. I have brown eyes and medium skin tone and this works well for me. I find having the darker base means roots are hardly noticeable fir a good while. Good luck. Also sometime you can fall into a pattern with a particular hairdresser and a different one could take a fresh approach.
