Very high suede boots.

Black skinny jeans or white skinny jeans.

Camisole top and black blazer or grey cashmere slouchy cardi. Or grey fake fur gilet over black polo neck.

Liquid eyeliner, red lips, silver hoops, pencil skirts, off the shoulder tops, leopard print coats. Possible the look of a woman down the docks in the '50s.
Or,
Biker jacket, skinny jeans, biker boots or DMs.

I'm 46 this year. I am not going to change it, even if sometimes I think I should.

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal · 22/12/2015 21:27

er....low maintenance? Elegantly scruffy?

Flat shoes. I hate heels with an absolute passion.

I prefer "classic" looks and shapes, and hate anything tight or restrictive.

madmomma · 23/12/2015 02:18

In my head, I have that sexy sicilian widow thing going on, all netted veils and d&g, but in real life I always, always end up wearing bad shoes Confused

Knackeredknitter67 · 23/12/2015 03:56

What ever I can throw on as fast as possible, although in my fantasy world, I'm a haunting punk/goth chic
Although I achieve that by wearing mostly black, although generally look a bit sooty

Knackeredknitter67 · 23/12/2015 03:57

not going to apologise for saying although too much

FastWindow · 23/12/2015 04:03

'thatll do, its clean'

Can you tell im a mum of young dc :)

In my head, i like short stretchy skirts over thick black tights, long boots, and either an elegant wool fitted jumper or an embroidered blouse. Floppy hat optional.

But generally - jeans, boots, some sort of top. I try to do my hair but its too long. I never fail on makeup though- not overstated, just natural, but my goodness i look dead if i go without :)

SinglePringle · 23/12/2015 04:52

Long eyelashes. Good base / skin. No eyeshadow. Blusher. Nude gloss on lips. Good blow dry (had a lesson).

Skinny navy jeans. Black leather leggings.

Stilettos or Addidas Stan Smiths

No cardigans.

Simple tops. V necks. Slogan t-shirts. Cashmere jumpers. No patterns (except leopard print). Sequinned jumpers (over whole top -especially a sweatshirt. On a Monday. With trainers.)
Silk blouses and pussycat bows. Blazers.

Pencil skirts (leather).

Big hoop earrings (gold only). Or diamond studs

RedMapleLeaf · 23/12/2015 08:13

There's a lot of skinny jeans wearing. What did you all wear before skinnies?

Does "signature style" denote a look that you've had for years, or can it change frequently and still be a signature?

I don't think I have a signature style Sad although one friend described me as having the same as her daughter, "SuperDry". I'm not sure that's a good thing.

BoboChic · 23/12/2015 08:43

I agree - skinny jeans are a fashion trend, not some sort of style signifier.

If you want to identify your own personal style it can be helpful to think of the constants in your aesthetic choices over time. What have you been doing in all your creative endeavours (dressing but also decorating/cooking/gardening etc) over decades?

IamSantaClaus · 23/12/2015 08:52

A wee bit grungy but mostly oversized jumpers / men's tshirts as long tops/dresses and cowboy boots .

I'm 5ft 10 so (woefully) live in flat shoes as conscious of my height, although I will wear a small heel when going out out. I always have nail varnish/lipstick on and switch between red or plum. I am also one who wears pearl studs with everything.

Sameshitdiffname · 23/12/2015 11:45

Favourite you should wear heels I do I'm 5'11 (and a bit) embrace it!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/12/2015 15:05

Geek/librarian chic in slightly different incarnations depending on whether it's work or play. Unless no one is going to see me, in which case it's scruffy jeans and big jumpers.

So for work I wear almost entirely midi skirts or dresses, lots of cropped cardigans over vests tucked into high-waisted skirts. I hardly ever wear trousers and I wear big black-framed glasses. Some pencil skirts (usually in a bright print eg red tartan or heathery flowers), some 50s type flared skirts.

If I'm going to see friends at weekends I like little casual dresses or shorts, opaques, ballet pumps, big slouchy cardigans.

With the kids I wear boring jeans and jumpers.

Motherwithflaws · 23/12/2015 17:20

Skinny jeans, biker boots or Marant Nowles boots, cashmere slouchy jumper, massive scarves, messy hair and shitloads of eyeliner.

But all I get is 'you're soooooooo tall'!!

OP posts:
Fannyupcrutch · 23/12/2015 20:47

If I am in the house then PJs! if I have to go out the its bright coloured 50s style dresses, irregular choice shoes, long red hair in a loose clip. I love funky novelty prints too. Do not like black drab colours on me at all.

Monica101 · 24/12/2015 11:04

My style is classic gamine, so I like the style of LK Bennet, Hobbs and some FCUK. My gamine style is that I generally like it to be tight fitting and slightly boyish.

My house is again modern but quite safe, I have most of my house in grey and white, probably most of it John Lewis.

I play it a bit safe with all my choices and don't have much boho looking stuff in my clothes style or house.

Sameshitdiffname · 24/12/2015 11:14

Favourite I get it too then they meet my siblings and say okay you're not that tall haha!

blueshoes · 24/12/2015 11:50

I am petite and slight with a small waist. A soft figure conscious dress with heels works for me at work. Outside of work, I also wear jeans and more casual dresses along the same lines.

I found that over the years this style suits my figure and fashion trends do not have that much impact on me. My clothes can be from decades back and I still get compliments. Used to be really difficult for me to find clothes that flatter but now most brands carry size 6. I am online shopping up a storm.
