help!what to wear with short black dress?

I need some help! I've bought a lovely short black dress for a birthday party next weekend and I have no idea what to wear with it! It's quite fitted at the top then flares out a bit on the bottom ending about half way up my thighs. now my thighs aren't small and I feel most comfortable in non see through black tights,but what shoes and cardigan to go? My sense of style says both in black but then I'd be all in black! I'm a curvy 10/12 with a larger chest,small waist and big hips!

I would go for a little jacket rather than cardi for a party.

With black dress and tights id go for black shoes though. Maybe you can get done with some metallic detailing?

Jacket and some kind of boots. No cardi.

Thank you so much for your replies! I thought black dress would be an easy choice, as I hardly ever get dressed up and want to feel nice. The dress does have a really slight gold fleck in it so maybe a touch of something in the shoes would brighten me up? I'm so clueless I was thinking a colourful cardigan. I'm in my late 20s and have lost all sense of style since dc came along!

I wore a short black dress to our works do
Sheer tights ,
High ( ish ) heels
Fuchsia pink shruggy type cardi
Green , pink , multi scarf/ shawl to go over mu legs when I sat down
But I'm over 50 , so not much help :)

How about a biker jacket and some black boots with gold heel like these (I'm not a heels girl but if you are there are plenty)

Would you wear the dress without a jacket?

What about accessories?

accessories I was thinking a silver bracelet and ring and I hadn't even though about a bag..maybe black! God this thread has made me realise I have zero fashion sense!

I need something to wear on the top as is very cold here!don't plan on wearing it all night

I'm not particularly a heel girl, in fact I prefer flats.

Red Cardi top and red heels.

I went to a party wearing a black dress , black tights and black shoes boots with a biker leather jacket .. I had loads of accessories though . Big necklace , big rings, earrings etc to brighten it all up a bit . Hth
