Wish I could find my "signature" perfume

I'm struggling to find a perfume that would be my everyday go to. For years I wore Ralph by Ralph Lauren - in the turquoise packaging and whilst I still like it, I now think it is a bit teen-agery for me. I'm in my late 30's and want something a bit more sophisticated. Plus there is a Fairy liquid now that smells exactly like it!

I love Jo Malone's nectarine and honey and also english pear and freesia but they just don't have the staying power. I can't smell them after about half an hour and they are costly enough that I would expect them to last a little longer.

I like citrussy, fruity, sweet scents but with a bit of warmth too. I've tried DKNY Women today, which is nice but I don't LOVE it, and DKNY Be Delicious the red apple one, ditto as before.

Any ideas? I just want a scent to fall in love with.

If you have a decent perfumery department anywhere, suggest you go and look for a sales advisor who isn't wearing a cosmetic brand uniform. We have one in our local House of Fraser who is lovely and a perfume nut herself. As long as the department is quiet, she will chat and make up tiny samples so I can try more scents. Maybe not this side of Christmas but in January, one weekday morning when in need of cheering up it's possibly something to look forward to.

Order the Perfume Society Box. If you don't like the samples, use them as currency like Hopeful says. You can also sell them on eBay.

I actually find it very hard to get given samples over the counter these days, unless there's a new launch on.
