I'm thinking about going to get my nails done tomorrow. Never had them done before.

I have a 6 month old so wash my hands a lot etc. Don't want to get false one as I normally keep my nails fairly short so would hate long ones.

I know nothing about it so teach me mumsnetters. Hit me with your recommendations

Try a gel polish (Shellac is one brand but there are others). It should withstand the frequent washing. It's just a polish on your own nails, not falsies.

Agree with Drquin. Try gel polish :)

Yep, gel polish. I've tried calgel & gelish. Calgel is the most hard wearing & longer lasting ( lasts 3 weeks on me) but I find it feels heavier on my nails. I pay £28 for that.

Gelish has loads more colours & is not as heavy. It only lasts 2 weeks on me & does start to look worn by then. I pay £20 for that.

I get Gelish nails done about every 3 weeks. I work in childcare so also wash my hands a lot and keep my nails fairly short. I don't really take care of them but they still look ok after 3 weeks, usually a few little chips on my thumb nails and index finger nails.

Oh great stuff. Gelish sounds ideal. Never managed to get them done at weekend but hoping in next few days I'll find the time.

Thank you for your advice Xmas Grin
