Are these shoeboot thingies naff and per una-y?

I have a party to go to and a very plain black Cos dress to wear. It was probably styled with ankle socks and brogues but I am middle aged and am trying to find something to wear to a posh work do.

My alternative is some plain black court shoes. I never dress up really, so am struggling a bit. Am kind of thinking black opaques and plainish shoes - does that sound right? What should I wear with a very simple jersey dress?

I think you are on the right lines - to my mind dresses with opaques and a shoe boot look much more modern than a court shoe!
Not mad on those particular show boots - have a look at m and s . I had some lovely autograph fringed ones or there are some plainer ones all reasonable .
Could go with a metallic/ sparkly clutch and good earrings / bracelet to add dress up factor ?
I would personally say step away from any "statement" necklaces as I think they are abit old hat - but that's just my opinion Smile

No, I had tried on some necklaces in my little dress up session earlier on and they didn't look right at all I have a cuff bracelet that looks OK. Will have a look at m&s shoes

I'm going to a Xmas do tonight and I'm wearing show boots from new look . They have a gold zip with a little tassel thingy . I think they look more modern than court shoes and they stay on my feet which courts don't .
