I bought this today to wear with black skinnies and can't decide whether to keep it or not. It fits well and after losing a ton of weight this year I got into a size 12!

I don't know if its a bit too mumsy? I'm 45 and 5'7" with shoulder length dark hair. I love the colour but something is niggling me about it. Thoughts?

I love that. Both the colour and cut is beautiful.

Greengardenpixie · 05/12/2015 17:24

Actually the only thing i dont like is the sleeves but then i have a thing about buttons and the roll up thing. It would be much nicer just plain imo. Can you turn them down?

itstheyearzero · 05/12/2015 17:33

Thanks pixie! Yes they can be turned down, but then you are left with a strip of material with the ring on dangling down. I do agree with you it would look better with full length sleeves but they don't bother me too much

Well i think with skinnies it would look great. I am 48 and i would wear it but and I don't think its mumsy.

CarpetDiem · 05/12/2015 17:38

You've just lost a ton of weight. well done! that top will not do you justice. The colour is great, jewel tones will work well with your dark hair however it is shapeless & baggy. Show off your new figure OP. Find something a little shorter & more fitted like this m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/hobbs-eimear-silk-blouse/p2195331?colour=Light%20Evergreen&_requestid=26874585&un_jtt_redirect#page_loaded

Greengardenpixie · 05/12/2015 17:44

That is some expensive green top for £95! Im not a fan but maybe the OP will like it :)

itstheyearzero · 05/12/2015 17:48

I like the colour, it's gorgeous, but I've got a really long body so short tops look a bit odd on me. Actually the reason I tried the turquoise one on was because on the mannequin it looked quite fitted and I want to show my figure off. On me it's quite fitted too, not at all shapeless and baggy.

Greengardenpixie · 05/12/2015 17:51

I dont think it looks shapeless and baggy on the model. I think its gorgeous. Its exactly something i would buy. It is a beautiful shape and colour.

CarpetDiem · 05/12/2015 17:52

It is expensive but I posted that one to demonstrate something less mumsy Smile

Floisme · 05/12/2015 17:53

It's a lovely colour but the fabric looks too floaty for me - I'd want something with a litle bit more structure although admittedly I'm a fair bit older than you. That thigh length wouldn't work for me either.

I'm not sure about the neckline on the Hobbs top as it looks quite high.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/12/2015 17:53

I prefer the Hobbs one and it is silk, but yes, it is expensive. I don't like the one in the OP.

itstheyearzero · 05/12/2015 17:53

Yes the colour is stunning! Was thinking of wearing quite a chunky silver necklace and earrings with it to set the colour off Smile

OP posts:
WipsGlitter · 05/12/2015 17:56

Honestly I think it is a bit mumsy and cheap looking.

Bunbaker · 05/12/2015 18:00

I don't think it looks mumsy at all. The neckline would be too low for me, but I like it. I would have to wear a camisole vest underneath it as I have no boobs Sad

shedragon · 05/12/2015 18:16

Hobbs one not bad. Sorry, not keen on the top in the OP.

Thingsthatmakeugoummmm · 05/12/2015 18:19

I'm not keen either. I think it will possibly make you look bigger. I think you should yo for something more fitted :)

Lambzig · 05/12/2015 19:51

I hate the term mumsy, but I do think it's a bit frumpy. If you are not sure, take it back. I now have a rule that if its not worn in a week, it goes back.

burnishedsilver · 05/12/2015 20:00

If something is niggling at you return it and buy something you feel great in.

I'm with you. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something I dont like about it.

itstheyearzero · 05/12/2015 20:50

I really like this one but they only do it in black, blush or ivory. Has anyone seen anything similar anywhere but in jewel tones?

OP, are you unconsciously gravitating towards tops that look as if they are designed to camouflage a few extra pounds? Both of the Debo's tops that you linked to are that style. I don't like either of them, I'm afraid; they both look mumsy and a bit apologetic.

Live a little and go for something more fitted and youthful. You're a size 12, so nothing to hide. I like the Zara and Hobbs tops that other posters suggested.

Nishky · 06/12/2015 08:56

I agree with going for more fitted-I have dropped from a 20 to a 12 and it is hard to adjust your shopping mindset I think. I still pick up size 12 jeans and think they look way too small for me!

itstheyearzero · 06/12/2015 09:49

Ha ha yes I am aren't I? In my head Im still a size 16. Love the way Zara top! What's the sizing like?
