What type of trousers (pear shape)?

I wear quite a lot of fairly floaty tops and tunics that normally I would wear with slim jeans but I want to dress then up for work. I'm quite pear shape so I find trousers really hard to find that are narrow enough at the waist but aren't really tight on my thighs, making me look like the back of a cow.

Can anyone recommend any very straight or slim black trousers that might work?

If you buy one really good pair, could you afford to push the boat out? I've always found Joseph trousers great and have noticed that others usually make positive comments about them on S&B. If you work out the cost/wear they work out very reasonable. I've had a pair for about 15 years! The stretchy, but firm fabric stretches over my bum & thighs and holds them in and the waist is small. I always get nice comments when I wear them & I'm a size 12 hourglass figure, so not normally a candidate for slim black trousers. Happy hunting!

Also pear shaped. Trousers aren't made for pears really, so I get them altered, - It's no great hassle, and I always wear a belt. Always.

Thank you. Trousers really aren't made for pears are they? Apart from the odd boot cut but they just don't go with my tops.
I trawled the shops today and found some tapered ones with an elasticated waist (much nicer than that sounds) in next. They are a little tight on my bum but I'm hoping with floaty tops that I'll get away with it. I just need to find a very honest friend who will tell me.

Was going to say tapered! I'm pear shaped and struggle in same way as you but I find tapered the way to go. Just have to be careful with your choice of top - in my experience needs to be fitted/tucked in otherwise you have baggy top, baggy trouser look. You need to emphasise your waist for it to work. For me anyway!
