Navy Patent Hamble Oak ... What Colour Tights?

MrsAlexanderSkarsgard · 24/11/2015 12:38

Afternoon all - finally bought my first pair of these lovely things yesterday - I'm okay about wearing them with trousers/skinnies but with dresses/skirts, would it be too much if I wore them with navy tights? Do I have to stick to nude?

TIA

Dark grey or navy would be my safe choice, based on advice to match your socks to your shoes, not your trousers.

Have you got any specific skirts you want to wear them with?

73dexter · 24/11/2015 12:42

I would wear black tights.

ThisPasadenaHomemaker · 24/11/2015 12:45

Navy is too matchy matchy. The tights and shoes will blend into each other.

I'd go for black or a contrasting colour (green/burgundy/purple).

Enjoy your Hamble Oaks - I have them in pewter and absolutely adore them Smile

I was looking at these dark green ones this morning but I need a 7.5 Sad

MrsAlexanderSkarsgard · 24/11/2015 12:47

Ooh dark grey - I hadn't considered that. Thanks MrsBertMacklin

I've got more dresses than skirts and a lot of them have a navy base/undertone - might have a try on session. Any excuse to put them on again Grin

I don't think black look right - only my opinion - but thanks for the suggestion 73dexter

Oh those green ones are lovely 73

I love the pewter and the black patent and have spent a few hours trying to justify another 2 pairs. I think I have a sickness Grin

I've got a few pairs of different coloured tights, so I'll give them a whirl.

Thanks all!

M&S do a nice slate grey colour in opaques. That goes well with my Hamble oaks and navy dresses as it tones rather than matches.

I have Hamble oaks in brown, pewter and navy. They are the dog's doodahs for comfort.

Bit - black and navy seems to send some people on here into a complete tizz but I love it! Much better than navy or purple tights - bleurgh!!

Twinklestein · 24/11/2015 16:09

Navy is too matchy matchy. The tights and shoes will blend into each other

So black tights with black shoes is out then. Oh sorry - what?

Don't wear black tights with navy shoes unless you want to look like a right Ernie.

Ive just bought some of the dark tan Hambles to wear with some grey trousers and some blue trousers for work. What colour socks?

MrsAlexanderSkarsgard · 24/11/2015 18:24

I'm quite boring and would probably go for a light brown/tan sock.
However if I was feeling a little braver, I'd go for some completely contrasting - bright argyl, something like that Smile

It doesn't "seem" to send "some people" into a tizz. It does send me into s tizz. It actually makes me feel itchy.

I'm not a style thread regular so I'm just citing my opinion. Which is, don't wear a black tight with a navy shoe

73dexter · 24/11/2015 20:17

Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, it is just that I have seen many posts before saying that navy and black together shouldn't be worn and the way you put 'fainted away' at the idea just made me think of a tizz as that seems like quite an extreme reaction to a colour combination.
