length of coat over dresses

I wear mostly knee length/just above the knee dresses and tunics with jeans and leggings. I'm looking for a casual coat with a good for the winter and I can't figure out what kind of length looks right.
I did want a parka style but they seem to mid thigh, does it look odd with a dress peaking out?

I don't think it matters. I just got fab parka in sale at French connection ??

I just think it looks sloppy with dresses and skirts poking out the bottom of coats.
I normally wear blazers/cropped leather jackets but the weather is far too cold!

I agree, if you're wearing a longer length coat it should be long enough to cover a dress.

Personally, I think your coat should either cover your skirt, or end at your waist - having a few inches of dress hanging down looks untidy. I have a fab parka from Topshop which is just a couple of inches above the knee, so there are definitely longer ones out there.

I would want the coat to be longer than the dress.
